I looked at their tourist info, but I'd like to know what life is like there. My youngest daughter (17) has accepted an au-pair placement there.

  1. St. Wendel is a sleepy little town(city? Depends who you ask). Not much of a nightlight when compared to the bigger cities like Köln or Berlin. The nearest 'Big City' is Saarbrücken which has a bit of French influence since it located near the French border. Hagger's anwer is very good info wise. I lived in a nearby town - St. Ingbert for a years so I can asure that St. Wendel is a nice place with a wonderful country side. The people there are friendly as compared the big city metro areas.

I have no idea what 'Sativahi' is talking about??? After years of working with computers and the InterNet I do know that many padded cells have InterNet access......

Anyway I think your daughter will be fine and it will be a good learning experience for her. I wish her luck and you not so much worrying.

  2. My daughter went there as an au-pair aged 17,6 years ago.She came home with twins and a lot of piercings.

She is now married to her L*****n lover, who she has known for 2 months. Her previous relationship started a few weeks after she arrived home. This too was with a woman,a very ugly woman. The he/she looked more like Jim Davidson on steroids.

Her kids are animals and behave like lunatics,in fact my nicknames for them are Ronnie and Reggie( the Kray twins ).They have dreadlocks so long that they are starting to look like chewbacca and they have both been expelled from 3 nurseries/schools.No other school will take them now, they are known as the"Headlock Rastas" amongst the playgroup management and Head Teachers of Schools fraternity/fraternities.

Thankfully we were able to stop her pot habit at quite an early stage.

All that said, her photos were nice and she has stopped self harming.St Wendel looks a great place in the photos ,but, the British/American/Mediteranean types/and most probably the vast population of the planet, should take emergency rations.Because she didn't like the food, she didn't eat anything. This enabled her to go on a diet so intense and strict, that it ended up in anorexia.

I'm unable to pass comment on the weather because I can't remember what she said it was like, but like I said,it looks ok in the photos and one can always wrap up against the cold.

  3. I've not been there for a few years, but I've still got friends there.

It is a quiet little town, not much night life (which should please you!) adorable landscape, really nice people and good food.

It is the shopping town for the surrounding villages, and there are plenty of shops, one public library, and two parochial ones, one Catholic and one Protestant. I'm afraid that's about all that can be said about it.

It used to be a centre of pilgrimage in the middle ages, and the church is a nice mixture of Gothic building and mostly baroque interior. Please tell your daughter to go to the "Missionshaus" and see the museum and especially downstairs the stuffed bear that dances very arthritically when it is fed with a small coin. My German granny used to take me there as a child, and my own children have taken theirs...

If you have any further questions please feel free to e-mail me.

    Edit:

Sativahi, you seem to be an utter eejit. Go play somewhere else.
