Has anybody ever jumped into the San Andreas fault?

Just saying, if you could make it down those 9-12 miles to the mantle, it'd be friggin sweet.

  1. Well faults are not huge cracks in the earth's surface they are huge cracks in the earth's crust.  You can't really stand on the edge of the fault and look in.  Also, faults do not reach all the way down to the mantle because if it did then that would technically be a volcano.....

    the fault is just two different rocks layers or plates that are running up against one another and are building up stresses.  the San Andres fault is a convergent plate boudnary so there are two plates bumping into one another and creating the fault
