has anybody ever lived in or been in a mobile home.

no joke, the kind in trailer parks. I saw a show on the travel channel and some of them looked nice. also would anybody know how much the normal ones cost and what fees might be involved, I'm in NY but for general answers that shouldn't matter.

  1. Mobile homes can cost as much as $1, 000 all the way to $150,000 depends on the area. For example the most you would pay for a mobile home in a rural area would be $35,000. Yet in big cities they can go all the way to $150,000.

If you pay the mobile home off , you would have to pay your lot rent. The lot is the price of land in the park that can cost from $150 to $600. Some parks have options where you can by the lot as well.

As for the bills it depends on your park and what they provide. Some provide water and trash, then you have to pay for your electricity, cable , phone, internet or whatever else you want. Other parks just let you take care of all the bills.

I found that this is a good option if you do not have the money to buy a home or the credit. Some parks are very nice, they have  a pool area, gym, and general area. While other are just a dump.

You can paint and decorate as you wish, but to do any additional structures you do have to get a permit.

Some people say that they have an insulation problem but with the new technology of being able to spray fiber glass that is no longer a problem.

In some states like California if you own a Mobile Home you do get credit like if it was a regular home at tax time.  Also every year you do have to pay taxes on your mobile, it is similar to a car or to a home, but they are not that expensive, it is usually between $50 to $300 per year.

Mobile homes sometimes have age limits: you have from 55 plus, that means no one over 55 yrs or older. This is the retirement community.

You also have the 18 plus, be especially careful with this parks since they DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN. That is because they do not do background checks and there could be a potential for rapist of young children. The family communities do a backgoround check and that is done before even buying a trailer in there area, plus there is surveilance and sometimes security guards.

    Hope this helps you.

  2. I have lived in a mobile home with my mother. I also vowed that I would never do so again. The mobile homes look nice but they are cheaply made. Also in many states they have to be placed on a foundation because the state requires it to be a permanent fixture, therefore if you rent a lot (like they do in the trailer parks) you will just be throwing money away. Trailers are cheap but they are more expensive than a house because of the land issue. Trailer parks often refuse to sell their lots and since land is not in large supply you will pay out the wazoo for a peice of land.

  3. Some of them are nice.  A friend of mine lives in a single wide mobile home.  I have been in it many times.  I have also been in double wides which are very nice.  You will pay according to the size you get and whether you buy new or used.  I'd suggest you do an Internet search for mobile homes dealers in your area and look at their web sites.  Some put the floor plan and pictures on their web sites.

  4. Yes.  It is a great option for short term renting, but a very bad investment.

They are not built to last and are bade of flammable materials.  They can burn to the ground in less then 10 minutes.  They depreciate in value and by the time it is paid off it will be worth less then what you paid for it.  You will have to make trailer payments and lot rent.  It is much cheaper to buy a house.  Oh did I mention you can't get a mortgage for one because it is on rental property?  Even if it is on land most banks will no longer mortgage them.
