Has anybody ever mixed sodium bicarbonate in water?

to increase the alkalinity of your body? Is this safe to do? What are your opinions, suggestions...thanks in advance.

I've done it to eliminate ghastly stomach aches caused by food intolerances ....  if you are going to do that to increase the alkalinity of your body i would suggest that you use organic baking soda as the commercial varieties have an awful lot of chemically processed salt in them which would only contribute to things like high blood pressure.

    I would prefer to increase my body's alkalinity by eating more alkaline forming foods and herbs .... as i already do ..... such as asparagus, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon, green and leafy vegetables, cantaloupe (muskmelon), celery, chestnuts, limes, lemons, tangerines, collard greens, horseradish, dulse seaweed, endive, honeydew melon, kiwifruit, mangos, papayas, persimmon, pineapples, ginger, paprika, parsley,hijiki seaweed, kale, kelp, mustard greens, nori seaweed, organic pumpkin seeds, parsnips, sweet potatoes, radishes, rutabagas, organic sea salt (sparingly), winter squash and yams.

    The natural cleanest source of whole food will always be the easiest for your body to assimilate and the most nutritious.

    Support & promote healthy digestion by eating more alkaline forming foods, pinpointing any food intolerances or allergies you may have and drinking loads of fresh filtered water too as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one.

    Ditch the sodas, soft drinks, alcohol too if you drink any as all these are amongst the most acidifying substances you can consume... cut right back on caffeinated drinks too.

  2. Well why would you want to incease the alkalinity of your body? :S

    But how much of it would you put in the water? What would the dilation rate of it be?

  3. Yes, my dad used to have me drink this when my stomach wasn't feeling so well. It helps to relieve a sour stomach and really helps. He got this remedy from his mom who used it on him. It is safe to do, however you will be doing alot of belching.

  4. Sodium bicarbonate is baking soda. It is a salt and increases dietary sodium way too much for the typical American diet. Use it for occasional indigestion but not healthy to use habitually. Besides, it neutralizes stomach acid which inhibits healthy digestion and absorption of minerals.

    Here's one alternative: Body Rescue Alkalizing Tea, available online or at most health food stores. It contains Yams, Parsley, Burdock root, Chickweed, Bladderwrack, Buchu leaf and apple & cinnamon flavors.
