  1. yes , theres a 14ft tiger shark that lives on one of my home breaks, see it about 3 times a year, and out at bayfront a hammer head said hello to me 2 weeks ago by butting my board....they are there 24/7 just dont wear shiny stuff.

  2. Yup... in San Diego leopard sharks are around all the time, as well as sting rays, seals, guitarfish and the gray smoothhound.

Not too worried about them if you see them.  Sharks are apex predators, so you probably won't see them coming for you.  I just move to another area or get out of the water if I see smaller fish jumping out of the water, birds diving for fish, and if I ever see a big dorsal fin attached to something moving side to side as opposed to up and down like a dolphin.

I've seen a tiger off of Oahu when I visited, and it was pretty intense... made me leave as quick as I got into the water!  Much respect to those predators of the sea!  It's not our ocean, but we can share it with them.

  3. yes, not a Great White, but we still got outta the water before finding out.

  4. once in new zealand, didnt stick around long enough to tell what make it was tho

  5. I don't surf but when I lived in Jacksonville on the base, I know a guy that got up close and personal with one. I was working at pizza hut on base and this guy came in with blood all over him said his friend was bit. Ok orginally I am from Texas so I'm thinking dog. I told one of the guys to call 911 and I grabbed every towel we had. I had a nice little shock when I got to the beach and figured out what had bit him. I didn't look at our beach the same way after that. Yes he was surfing at the time.

  6. Nah. Dolphins n whales I took for sharks....n got out of the water ASAP...

    duh....

  7. quite often,

its very common here in Australia.

  8. i saw a BIG GREAT WHITE WHILE SURFING, BUT THE REASON I ONLY SAW IT IS B-CUZ MY SHORTS FELL OFF AND I SAW MY SHARK

  9. I've seen sharks almost every time I went surfing in Florida.  Mostly they were small so I didn't worry about it too much.  The water isn't clear enough to see them where I live but I know they are out there.  I just looks for signs that I need to paddle in, such as a school of fish suddenly breaking the surface near me.

Overall it is something that you really don't have to worry about. You're more likely to die form a bee sting or dog bite and you put yourself at much more risk just by driving to the beach.

  10. I saw sharks in the water off the coast of North Carolina once.  The officials said they were Blue Fish, but they were sharks.

  11. Duuuuuuuuuuuude!  A gnarly shark ate my surfboard once, Duuuuuuuuuuuude!  Then it like, totally ate my wetsuit, Duuuuuuuuuuuude!  I was totally, like, naked, Duuuuuuuuuuuude!  It was gnarly, Duuuuuuuuuuuude!!

  12. No but I fell right into a school of them while para sailing but luckily my friends seen them and I sailed back into the air. The scary thing was is that I had a few open cuts on my legs.
