I recently went to the dentist I got rid of some cavities and got a very small tooth reconstruction. It has been about 4 days now and 2 days ago I began to feel discomfort and maybe just a little bit of pain in my lower jaw. All of the work I had done was done in my upper teeth so that's kinda weird. anyhow... I was at the dentist office for 2 hours with my mouth wide open the whole time. is this normal and how soon will this go away? it's really annoying and uncomfortable.

  1. Every time!

Either the discomfort wasn't there at first and an infection may have set in or as I suspect you are just being a bit more confident trying to use your jaw and took a few days to notice it.

If it starts to throb and get worse it may be infected so go back and tell your dentist.

  2. I have never had this sort of problem before. But like you mentioned, it's probalby because you opened your mouth for 2 hours. It should go away in a few days, but if it doens't, you should check the dentist again.

  3. thats ahppened to me before but i thik it was jsut from my mouth being open for so long and then making my jaw tense after wards because i was scared to touch what the dentist did that it would hurt?

  4. I have had my jaw ache up to two weeks after a longer procedure. I would suggest if it does get worse or not better after a week or so you can call the dentist and ask.
