  1. yes. judo people can be very tough.

though there are no strikes or kicks. it is pretty much a sport system.

but i have used judo in real street fights successfully. if there is one thing i think some sport arts DO have over more self defense oriented arts ...it's that they practice "live" with a resisting opponent.

more traditional/self defense arts should do this too.

  2. Yes someone that takes Judo with my son went to Brazil and was almost hurt by a crook.  The criminal reached in to grab his wallet and tried to hit him at the same time.  He was able to grab the guy by the throat.  Once he let go the guy ran off.

  3. personally no. but i've seen several judo practitioners get into fights, some on the streets and some even in the gym and they seriously kick some ***

  4. any martial arts, knowledge or form of physical training will give you an advantage over the average person on the street if its applied properley.

  5. all knowledge is good - I try to avoid fights, but my past training makes me less afraid of fights.  the one fight I did get into I didn't use any of my training - my ex-husband attacked me (was still married at the time).  you choose not to use martial arts on loved one's - your mind doesn't comprehend that it's okay to defend yourself.  you just don't hurt someone you love.  so unfortunate, looking back, I should have kicked his a$$.
