  1. I've been there several times and think it is a beautiful town.  It is nice to walk over the old bridge and then climb up to the fortress.  The beautiful castle the others mentioned is definitely worth seeing.  There is also a walking tour of the town in English offered by the tourist information office which I really liked. Just go to the tourist office in the downtown and ask them about it. There is a nice restaurant right on the old bridge that has great food and if you sit outside on the bridge (the nicest place to sit in my opinion) you don't need a reservation.   I think you'll enjoy it there.

  2. I've been there but it wasn't a happy visit. I was in the hospital there with food poisoning. Let me clarify that now. It was the military hospital, and I got the food poisoning from cottage cheese in an Army messhall in Bamberg, Germany along with about 500 other G.I.'s. Most of them were quarantined in their barracks in Bamberg, and I was one of a few that actually went to the hospital. This was back in 1960.

By the way, if you want to see a beautiful town, go to Bamberg. It's only 59 miles away, and it's a great train ride.

  3. my dear,I have not been in wurzburg, but I'm going to Frankfurt

tomorrow afternoon, for what's left of world cup 2006.

    is that any close???????????????

  4. no

  5. I have. Wuerzburgers are known as the least friendly people in Germany and I'd have to agree. Ditto re the Residenz.

  6. I love Wurzburg!!! I would agree with everyone else and say go to the Rezidence. Also go to the Fortress( it is on top of a hill, you will see it when you get there). Don't forget to take a stroll downtown. They have a good variety of shops. Also, eat at Pizza Hut. It is so much better than America' s Pizza Hut, but also eat some German cuisine while you are there. That' s pretty much it for Wurzburg (that I know of) So after you have finished take the Romantic Road. It goes all the way into Italy, but if you don't have time I would at least suggest going to Rothenburg. It is the last medieval walled city left in Germany. They have a museum there that shows all the torture devices used in medieval times and it has some good shops in the city too. Also, take a walk at the top of the wall. You can get some great pictures from there. Have fun on your trip to Germany.

  7. Check out the Residenz. It's a big old castle downtown Wuerzburg. Very beautiful and an absolute must to see. They have tours in English there, too.
