I am in school to learn to fly helicopters. I am to the point that i need my own headset, i am looking to alternatives to DC 10.34H.

I would like a pair that isnt to expensive but that will last for a long time, and i dont have lots to spend on them.

I was specifically looking at the avcomm 747's and the pilotusa 1181TH

  1. Huh. I thought the reason everyone had DCs was that they were cheap.

Get a good noise-canceling headset. It will serve you well for years. Telex has a top-of-the-line model (Stratus) for about $750. If you're going to be flying helicopters for a living you need to protect your hearing. It's worth a few hundred dollars now to avoid a hearing aid in the future.

  2. My first headset was an Avcomm and I hated it. ANR is well worth the money, especially if you plan on flying often. I would recommend the Lightspeed Zulu, or the Flightcom Denali.

  3. If you're looking to get into flying helicopters for fun or for a living. Don't compromise. There is a reason everyone has David Clark headsets.

You will be spending thousands for your flight training. Don't pinch pennies on a $300-900 headset. Nothing comes even remotely close. The only thing that will last is DC. Its the industry standard.

By the way . Lesson 1 In Aviation - Nothing In Aviation Isn't Expensive :)
