Has anybody practiced Kyokshin Karate? If so, did you find it REALLLLY difficult, and almost felt "stupid"

It is normal to feel uncoordinated and silly during your first martial arts class.  It doesnt matter if it's Kung Fu, Karate or anything else.

Don't let that stop you, keep going and you will get better!

All the masters there were once white belts that never quit!

i take kyokushin karate

in my class my teacher really doesn't think katas are useful so we don't do them. we train more like MMA (i.e. boxing, muay thai, and jiujutsu plus some kyokushin things like sparring and kicks). the only time i do kata is when there is a promotion and we have to go promote with the other more traditional dojos.

it can feel wierd doing the katas, but i personally don't prefer them because i feel them unpractical, and i also haven't done too many katas.

Well it certainly isn't the easiest thing in the world to learn, but then again there are difficulties early on in anything new we try. Yes it can be very difficult and yes some of the footwork is pretty hard to get down. Some of it is designed to build the muscles in the hips and waste and until you start to build them up and stretch them out can feel extremely strange.

You'll get through it, don't worry we've all been there. The first time I was shown how to "shrimp" or do the hip and elbow escape in Jiu jitsu I felt pretty stupid sticking my butt way out backwards and really pushing it out there. Once again though there was method in the madness and it is a very useful move to have in your arsenal.

Don't sweat feeling stupid or whatever, instead try to focus on the purpose and concentrate on doing the movements with correct footwork and posture.
