Has anybody seen the new Navy uniforms?

Does anyone else think it's a little ridiculous for sailors to wear camo that matches the sea? Hopefully no one falls overboard.

  1. The cammies don't look too bad, but don't look too well suited for shipboard use, hopefully they'll still allow coveralls on the ship while underway.  The new service uniforms don't look much like Navy uniforms at all, with the blue shirt, it looks a lot like a Coast Guard uniform, and with the Khaki shirt, it's pretty close to a USMC uniform, with darker pants.

  2. It's ridiculous, but supposedly not mandatory.  Commands can still let you wear coveralls.  I'm a mechanic in the engineroom of a submarine.  There is absolutely no reason I should be wearing cammies, unless they're trying to trick me into thinking I'm some kind of warrior.

  3. Yea its kind of funny. Their camos are blue. Their other uniforms looks sort of similar to the marine corps uniforms.

  4. Not one of their brightest ideas

  5. I believe it's a take at the MARPAT pattern with a distinct Navy flair (It is called NAVY blue for a reason haha) Do I think it's practical? No.

Am I glad I'm joining the army? Very!

(For the record I hate the ACU pattern and design BUT it beats blue! haha)

  6. The predecessor to the new camo uniforms are hated throughout the Navy.  The everyday working uniform cannot be worn in public, except to stop for gas or other essentials.  They tear easily, and they wear out quickly. The camo uniforms are intended to give sailors a more "military" appearance, while at the same time allowing them to actually do personal things on the way home (eg grocery shopping).  Those who stand guard over ships currently wear woodland camo to give the appearance of a more hardened target (ie they look like Marines).  The blue/gray camo fits an industrial setting like a Navy base better.

  7. The new uniforms aren't for any kind of tactical reason. It's been explained that the reason for the pattern is because it's easier to take care of. The pattern allows for patching and it isn't really noticeable. It also doesn't show stains as well. As for it matching the sea, you do realize our utilities are light and dark blue and our coveralls are dark blue... so we already match the sea.

  8. i could see if seals wore them
