  1. My son and I stayed at the Maestre Pie Filippini last summer. It's about a 10 min. walk south of Saint Peter's &  66 euro per night for a room with 2 beds with a sink and balcony.  Shared bathroom but it was nice and clean.  No AC and it was hot in Aug. if that's a problem.  There is a supermarket a block away and the 64 bus from Termini stops at the San Pietro Station about two blocks away.  Their email is available on the Santa Susanna church 's website with a list of a lot of other convents, as well.  The nun's speak english, the place has a gated entry.  The breakfast consists of a hard roll, a snack cake of some sort, tea, coffee, milk, jam, butter and creams cheese. They locked up at 11 PM.

  2. if is not a problem  for you go to bed at 9.30 (becouse  you have to be there at that time if not you have to wait for the following  morning to go back in..)

  3. My brother and his wife stayed in a convent in Rome and loved it. A nephew and his wife later stayed at the same place and agreed. They all liked the location, food, and the room they had. The convents and monastery stays are often some of the best deals in Italy.

I stayed in one outside Torino that was spectacular, but have always stayed in hotels in Rome.

  4. Rome is a dump. Sure it has nice buildings, but the streets are full of sh*t and immigrants begging.

  5. As Alex CJ said, you have to be in a certain time, 10pm at the latest - after that they'll lock the door!

You can get a full list of all the religious houses which offer accomodation from the Vicariate of Rome but you have to write. The address is:

    Vicariato di Roma

    Piazza San Giovanni 6,

    00184,

    Roma

or, I've posted the address of two sites (below) which you may find useful.

Despite what the first poster said, Rome is a fantastic city which has so very much to offer - enjoy!
