  3. I live in Jakarta, Indonesia right now.  It's a big noisy city and isn't much of a tourist place but Bali is lovely.  We've been there a few times and it's very relaxing, people are very friendly.  There are some fab five star hotels but also all kinds of accommodation for all budgets.  Young singles tend to go to Kuta and families to Nusa Dua or Jimbaran Bay.

  4. i visited indonesia a while ago now, but i really enjoyed Kuta beach, i got my hair braided on the shore and the ppl were all friendle. I remember visiting the monkey forest as well, the monkeys r soo cute.  I stayed at the Bali Sol Hotel, they had a gr8 pool and was close to the beach. I hope to return there someday!

  5. I was there about 12 years ago, but it was fantastic! I was in Bali and Java. Bali was amazing. I think staying more inland is the way to go because the coast is such a tourist trap. I was in Ubud, which is an artist colony, for a week and just took day trips to other areas. Ubud was such a great little charming area where you could eat incredible meals, see the monkey forest and get some incredible buys on shopping.

Java was very different though. It is mostly a Muslim island so you have to where more conservative clothing, but totally worth seeing if just for the experience. If you do go, visit Borobudur, the oldest Buddhist temple in the world. It will knock your socks off! Be prepared that Jogjakarta is very poor, but the people are very friendly.

  6. I've been to Medan. Nice place, the food is great.
