Question:

Has anyone's infant fallen out of a swing when they were completely buckled in?

I have a Fisher Price "Deluxe Take-Along Swing" which I have used for my daughter pretty much since birth. (It folds flat for travel and storage and plays music, flashing lights, you know the deal...) So two days ago my daughter was sitting in the swing, buckled in correctly (as tight as the swing allowed). She is 4 months old and about 15 lbs. I left the room for a minute to go pee and she started crying as soon as I sat down - of course, LOL. I finished what I needed to do and washed my hands, thinking she was fine for two minutes until I could get back to her. As I walked into the room she had pushed herself up to a stand, which lowered the back of the swing enough that she tumbled right out and onto the floor before I could get to her! Fortunately the swing sits low on the floor and was on a carpeted surface but it scared the heck out of me! She started screaming and I was crying because it's the first time she's gotten a boo-boo. Actually she didn't get hurt at all but it was a horrible experience! Has anyone had anything like this happen with a swing? I couldn't believe how unsafe that thing is. She was completely buckled in but she is so strong it didn't even matter!

  1. I checked on Amazon for you and saw a lot of bad reviews for this swing. Some parents mentioned that the weight limit is 17 pounds, but at 14 pounds they felt like their babies were to big for it. I like to read reviews of baby products before I buy them, hope this helps.

  2. No fortunately this has never happened to me but if it did I would make a huge stink to the manufacturer. Does the swing have a weight restriction?

  3. those were actually recalled a few years ago and then "re-released".  That is the exact reason they were recalled!!  I will try and find the recall link and post!!  Is it an old one or a new one??

My son hasnt gotten out but he has sure as heck tried a couple times (and we have the fisher price papasan one so it's harder and WAY higher than the take alongs".

I will edit if I can find that link...

Hope the little one is okay (and mommy too...)

    Cute Avatar pic BTW!!!  :-)

  4. even though she was buckled in the type of swing dosent seem to fit her mesurements... so she problly to big for it now thus letting her tip it over...

one should alway check every mth hight and wieght on baby item for a reminder

  5. my son actually hated his swing, so no accidents with swings, but i have accidentally cut his finger while clippins his nails. blood everywhere. very traumatice for me and daddy. he was fine.

he's also rolled off the couch 2x. once was my fault. once was his daddy's. no injury's just startled.

he's 10 months old now, and is crawling all oiver and getting bumps on things, but he's fine.

im sure your daughter is fine too. no worries. id double check the weight limit on the swing though just to make sure she doesnt exceed it.

  6. That is scary. Time to get a new swing.

We have four different types of swings (3 of the four are Fisher Price) but not the take-along swing. Never had any incident or even came close to having an incident - thank god.  Our four month still loves his bouncer swing which is similar to the take-along swing (it is the most lightweight / flimsy of the four), but at 16 lbs, he might be getting too big for it.

  7. Oh my gosh, that's really scary!  I don't have that swing, but now I know why my swing has shoulder harnesses along with the crotch/waist strap.  I use to think that was a bit excessive.

I'm glad your little girl's ok.

    Thanks for posting that!

  8. Only on an oudoor swing for your back yard, but that is aweful you should file a complaint so they can recall them and make them safer!
