Question:

Has anyone's small child spoken of a past life?

I don't mean second-hand stories, but has this happened to you? My son didn't speak in a way that made any sense until he was nearly 4 (he has autism). When he began to speak understandably, he told his dad a long story about his life "when he lived before" as a road builder in Africa; and then said "I also lived in the future in a metal body, and when it stopped working, decided I would go backwards in time and picked you for my parents." He certainly didn't pick these ideas up from any of our family. If just from a psychological perspective, though, it interests me in trying to understand my little guy. Thanks for any insights.

  1. I'm probably being a little over sensitive here but the question seems to me to imply that you are only asking for insight from people that have had this experience personally. If we followed this line of thought then counselors that were men couldn't be helpful to women (they have never personally experienced being a woman), they could not help a divorcing couple if they hadn't been divorced, a white woman counselor couldn't be helpful to a black man, etc, etc.

Thus in the spirit of being helpful (even though I have never had this happen to me personally) let me inform you that the best research on this topic was conducted by Ian Stevenson, M.D. (deceased) but his work continues at the University of Virginia (link below).

  2. My grandfather was killed in WWII.  My brother once told my mother that he was her father and  often would wake up with nightmares from "the bombs" going off.  As an adult, he was drawn to join the military.  Thats always been a little strange to me.

  3. Not that I know off!!!!

  4. Sounds like you have a very imaginable child on your hands with some original ideas. He should write a book, sounds like it might be a best seller.

You can probably just disreguard the idea that he is really from the future.

  5. Its happens more than people realize. Young children are more likely to remember such things prior to being 'acclimated' to their new surroundings. In cultures where such things are not widely accepted such things are frowned upon or poo-pooed away.

There is a large amount of research being done in the area; also in regards to birth marks and whether or not they are linked to past life trauma.

One case I remember was where a young boy remembered his entire past life to include his wife and children...he apparently had been shot in the head while sitting in his car.

In the new body, he was born with two birth marks on his head; one on either side...one smaller and one bigger; somewhat like the patter a bullet would make entering and exiting the skull.

I don't recall the link to that particular story but there is a link below with similar results.

  6. Yes, my nephew used to talk about another family "before he was born this time- to be with us".  Mostly when he was about three and four, then stopped.  I asked him about it a while back (he is 21) and he kind of freaked out and told me he has had this reoccurring dream his whole life about another family and then dying in the dream when he was small.  Very strange, but possibly cool.

  7. Mine did when she was quite a bit younger. There were a few different occasions that gave me pause. She seemed to recognize people and even told me that an older man that we had just met, was her husband. When I explained that he wasn't and even had a grown up wife of his own, she cried. She just kept insisting that was impossible. She also used to ask me if I remembered when she was my mommy. She didn't understand why I could not remember, when she was "big" and I was "little". Apparently we had alot of fun. I wish I could remember.

  8. Omg i was just watching a vid on youtube about that and i belive every word of it!!!

  9. Hello

My daughter, when about 4, on the way to play school pointed to an old building, saying that it used to be a school.

It was, it hadn't been a school for about 30 odd years, & at time was converted into flats - she was too young to read the inscription stones in the wall & was on otherside of road, so unable to see them even if she could.

Children havnt always had everything memory wise wiped at birth & so can be more aware of such things.

    Pam

  10. Hope you don't mind me answering this interesting question; I don't personally know anyone who has had this experience BUT I have read of a few cases whereby children have spoken, in great detail, of other lives.

It could be one of a number of things:

    - your son could have a very vivid imagination; perhaps he has a great career as a novelist ahead of him :)

    - it could be that he was reproducing a story he heard/read and unconsciously remembered. This is entirely possible.

    - if you do believe in reincarnation, I guess this is another possibility.

I would recommend that if you want to investigate this last theory, then there is some most intriguing reading out there!

I seem to recall that Edgar Cayce wrote about reincarnation, among many other topics.

Hope this helped a little bit and I wish you well :)

  11. JAI SRI KRISHAN ,JAI SRI RAM

It is true. He must be living in subconscious mind for some time .  like in my village a child was born and he was speaking Sanskrit language . when his grand mother touched Him , He stopped talking . i was very young that time ie around 6 years old. than His body was kept on Road side to show people . i remember that so many people donated money .

So it is not very strange that your son is talking about past life. but i do not understand that How He was living in a metal body . and if he was living in metal body then He should not have choice to take birth esp as per his own desire . that i am not able to understand . ok whatever you need not worry about that . we can not know the God's leela anything could possible.

  12. When my son was three, I had just put him down for a nap when he started screaming and yelling saying that people were throwing stones at him.  He crawled up in a ball with his hands over his face and yelled for the people to stop.  I frantically asked him "what should they stop doing?"  He yelled "Stop stoning me!"  I picked him up and soothed him until he "snapped" out of it.   He had never heard of a "stoning" before and I can't think of any place were he would have been exposed to such things.  I spoke with an elder who knows of these things and he channelled a Swedish chieftan from the 3 century AD who had been stoned to death for not converting to Christianity.

There are two other incidents that occurred involving different scenarios, one when he was 4 year old when he told us about a time when he lived someone where else and that he picked us as his parents.  He described the life my husband and I lived before we became his parents.  He even drew pictures and described the pictures.  I wrote down what he said and made it into a book for him.  We still have it.  It is one of my treasured possessions.  The other when he was 11--that incident is too complicated to go into in this forum.  He was not a troubled child; quite "normal" and is currently 22 years old and a senior at UWMadison.

May I suggest you check out the children's book The Mountains of Tibet by Mordicai Gerstein.  I found the book when my son was 5 or 6 years old.  The book says its for children 7 and up. . . but adults would enjoy it too.

  13. I have heard remarkable stories about such things.  Great Question, Great Answers.

My youngest Kaitlynn has an unexplained fear of getting her head wet.  So it's always fun when it's time to wash her hair.  She will cry like I was hurting her.  I asked her once why does she cry so and she told me that her momma hurt her with the water.  I finshed up quickly and held her close and soothed her.  To this day she still does not like washing her hair, she more tolerate now.

There's also an image in my head that I can not explain.  I am stepping into a pool of water of some kind to play.   I am completely drenched from playing, when I get out of the water, the water rolls right off of me and back into the pool and I am as dry as if I had never stepped into the pool.   Kinda cool.

  14. no my two have never mentioned it but i found some of the other answers quite interesting.

  15. I have heard some crazy (but really imaginitive and entertaining) stories from kids.  It's amazing how varied their imagination is, isn't it?

  16. My youngest son started talking in complete sentences at a very early age.

It was quite a novelty and adults were intrigued and surprised by his ability to communicate. Even his doctors.

Early on he began telling us about the place he was at before he came to be in our family. At first I thought that he was just making up stories, but I listened just the same. Then one evening before bed he said something that really made me wonder.  He told me about something that had happened to him before he was born into our family.

I asked him when this had happened and he said it happened when I was a man like you dad.  He went on to say not as old as you are now, I was a lot older.  My hair was white and my skin was wrinkly.

This was too much.  I was sure that he was making it up.

I began to try to get him to make up a story for me but he seemed unable to understand what I was asking him to do. After several tries I realized that although he was fully capable of relating something that had actually happened to him he was not at all able to make up a story and tell it in a coherent lineal manner that made sense.

He had by this time made several references to the place where the babies where before they are born and about the time he came to see his mother and I before he was born to see if we were the ones he wanted to have for his parents.

He got none of these ideas from my wife or I because these are not ideas we believed in or had ever heard about.

Only later did I do research and find other references to the things that he was telling us.

He is 14 now and can still remember telling us about these things but he says that most but not all of the actual memories of what he was describing have faded.

I'm not sure what to make of this and I am not trying to lie to you or convert you to believe anything. It just happened.

  17. I think kids have a 'guardian' that helps them through the period between being born, and perhaps 4 years old, whne their own brains develop enough that they can go it fairly independently.

As for your question, My wife and I were never supposed to have any kids, according to fertility and other specialists- my wife for physical problems, and myself after a fall at work.  13 years later, out of the blue she got pregnant, and the boy went overdue, but was born healthy, and not prone to crying or anything.  Very obedient and what I would call a perfect kid.

It was obvious to me that at times, he seemed to be in a conversation with someone beyond the veil.  It also seemed to me that if I scolded him for what ever reason, or used other disciplinary techniques, something of a similar note would befall me, such as physical injury, cuts, or a psychological weight.

Like myself, he didn't really begin to talk until he was 3, and when he did talk, it was about his brother and a sister, and a very abusive dad, that would chain them up, lock them in a closet, beat them, and carry on in that sort of fashion, though more the brother and him.  He described where they lived (in New Jersey or New York), and some of the other factors of life in h**l, even stating that he was 9 or 10, when, during a problem of being locked up in the closet, their house or living space caught fire and burned them up.

Before he could talk, he had a strong resistance alarm or smoke alarm sounds, and was absolutely deathly afraid of any open flame, fireplace, fireworks.  He made it known that he wanted nothing to do with any of it.

The description of where he lived and visuals was as perfect as one could expect from a news reporter.  I attempted 3 times to make a voice recording, but for some reason, they never turned out well, or the tapes would break or something.  Perhaps it wasn't in the cards to keep a copy of the interviews.

Now, at 14, he doesn't remember any of it.  He is pretty sociable with his peers, and an avid musician.  The whole thing was pretty strange, and I can only think that Upstairs, he was given a second chance with loving parents the second time around, to develop and meet his potential and destiny.

We later had a girl, that was born 9 1/2 years later than the boy, in a juxtaposition of the first's birthday.  She too had stories, but her words were in Japanese or Chinese.  She was coming out of that sequence when we finally found a person to listen and translate, and the little girl, to the adult translator, spoke very clear phrases that one time, but soon after that, the narrative shut off, just like with the boy.

The now 4 year old girl is a whiz at jigsaw puzzles, rhythm and music, art, drawing.

  19. I'm not trying to sound neg. but some children are born with a gift...imagination. Some children with disorders make up for it by begin great at arts or very smart at memorizing. He could've heard this info from anywhere TV, people and the street, etc. and made it into a story. I'm not a skeptic so don't go around thinking that I answered it like this because of that. Some children really think that even if they weren't {like in the movie martin child, loved the movie}. My mom had dreams of stuff like that and she was a queen but anyway he could be saying things like that for a reason and a reason BESIDES wanting to get attention. And besides how DO you know its not from family members? Maybe they didn't tell him these things but could've been talking about a movie etc. like them there might be alot about someone you don't know no matter HOW close you are.

To pam(on of the ppl. that put an answer) Its VERY common when teachers tell childern about the things around them like buildings y teachers used to tell me about buildings that used to be schools etc. and if you make a big deall or even if dont a child wants to seem smart sometimes so they dont tell you about it. Even if it wasnt a treacher she couldve heard it from someone. Some say it takes way more then 30 years for a soul to get a new body but I could be wrong.

And its not so much young children but "gifted" people I know some way old people that have "talents" such as giving alot of detail about future events or controling their dreams to such an extent that they can actually CHOSE what to do in them.
