Has anyone SUCCESSFULLY gotten rid of the smell of rotten potatoes from a kitchen cabinet?

I had a bag of rotten potatoes leak onto my shelf-paper lined cabinet. I changed the shelf paper, but the cabinet itself absorbed the smell, along with all the plasticware I store there. Soaking in vinegar water got most of the smell out of the plastic, but I cannot do anything about the cabinet itself. I've heard lots of ideas, but I'm looking for someone who has actually had success. thanks!

  1. keep baking soda in a closet for few days.. It will work

  2. One way is to simple empty out the whole of the cabinet, and get a solution of hot water with a strong disinfected and give it a good wash out, then change the water and give it a good rinse out, or try pouring neat bleach straight onto the the shelf, after you have empty the cabinet and wash it out with hot water, again rinse it well.

  3. Take the shelf paper out clean it out good with baking soda/water paste then when its dry sprinkle some baking soda in it, leave it for a day or two, clean it out good so the paper will stick again. You can do the same with the plasticware if its not replacable. (I've had the same problem and baking soda works wonders)

  4. I haven't had any success with Febreze or baking soda.  However, I did find a product that worked for my cabinets.  I'm not sure what the smell was coming from - just stale. A friend recommended a product called Fridge IT.  It worked great and now I use it for lots of different area including refrigerator.

Go out and get some of these FRIDGE-IT activated carbon odor absorbers - little purple cube - not the imitations and put at least one in each cabinet. Totally unscented so it actually eliminates odor rather than covering up with some nasty fragrance and totally safe to use.

Also have two cats and i actually also use these on litter box - they are FANTASTIC No spills or chemicals to worry about. You can buy these in kitchen gadget stores or just go direct which is what I do - contact them at customerservice@innofresh.com and ask for order form. You get it right away.

Definitely the way to go. try it.

    Good luck
