Has anyone actually EATEN at the Donghuamen Night Market in Beijing?

  1. You can eat pretty much whatever you want.   From scorpions and starfish, to frozen fruit and dumplings.  That being said, it's pretty much a tourist trap.  It's worth going to see, but don't have too great of expectations.  If you plan on going in the next few days, good luck, the crowds of tourists in that area are immense, and after the games open on Friday, it will be a zoo.  

    If you are going to go, it seems to be a prerequisite that foreigners have to try at least something odd.  I have tried almost all of it, except for the seahorses on a stick.  Go for the scorpions, they are pretty palatable.  My favorite food in all of Beijing, at any market or street vendor, is "yang rou chuan"  basically lamb meat on a stick.  It's fantastic.  

    If your stomach is sensitive, remember these words, "wo bu yao la".  Not great grammar, but means that you don't want spicy, they will understand.  Sometimes the spices wreak havoc on western stomachs.
