I'm asking if it is free because due to my religion my husband and I can only adopt children if we don't have to pay for anything. It's against our religion to buy human beings and I know that if you adopt from foster care that you usually don't pay anything. The Internet wasn't much help.

  1. Contact the local foster care system and tell them your interested in adopting children from the foster care system.

Fees, (for home study, background checks, legal fees and other needed paperwork) should be minimal at best.

There's no cost for the actual child. The money you'll spend will not be on "buying" the child. Buying a child is illeagel at least here in the States.

It's a necessary evil that you'll have to spend money on background checks for you and everyone in your home.  A good Social Worker will walk you through this process, and as these items/needed paperwork comes up, will inform you of what needs to be done and the cost (and what it is for), if any on your part. Also, they should be willing to answer every question you have.

You'll need to be somwhat flexable on the ages of the child/children you wish to take in.  Are you willing to take in teenagers, older children, a child plus one or two of their siblings, a toddler, or an infant? Keep in mind to have a baby/toddler placed in your home is a lot harder than having older child/children and teenagers placed.  What about a special needs child? What special needs are you willing to deal with or not willing to?  Would you even consider a special needs child? Keep in mind a special needs child can range anywhere from a child with mild down syndrome to a child thats been severly abused in some way to a child with mental illness, to a child with serious medical problems.

You and your husband will need to think about this, discuss it with each other and the Social Worker as well.

As you get closer to having a child placed in your home, you'll need to buy things like a bed, dresser, nightstand, sheets, and anything else that a child might need.

  2. Call the West Layette, IN foster care system.  Why would you count on info from here for something so important?

  3. Well there are costs when fostering a child, and adopting.

    however

the costs are for YOU and your new child,

Eg.. You need medical exams for you and your spouse,

you need to pay for a license for CPR or First Aid Certification, Pay a Lawyer for a Legal Adoption, all these things cost money, BUT I believe AT NO point is money ever paid for a CHILD, in fostering the state will PAY YOU to care for the Child, and in Adoption THAT monetary payment is to OFFSET fees incurred to them while caring for the child, and used for the care of Other children NOT for the CHILD you Adopt, Just like you were paying a babysitter,

or making a donation to the poor.

NOW there are Agencies that Help you to adopt and they charge money for their help, BUT its like a 3rd party
