  1. This is going back a bit now but after being asked for a small fortune to host the barmitzvah function after my cermony in London my parents decided to do it at home. We bought the food wholesale from a deli and hired a few people to help with the catering and washing up. It worked out a lot cheaper and even if we'd hired a hall I still think it would have been chaeper than using a caterer.


  2. Ask family, extended family, friends and neighbours to contribute. Has the local Synagogue got a functions room they hire out? Buy the food ingredients, flatware etc. wholesale

    Try a neighbouring shul; they should have a list.
