I was going to look into getting my FFL and am not sure if it’s worth the hassle. What are the costs up front and renewal fees? If it hard to get approved? I am an x-police officer and just need a hobby. I have read the ATF website but they don’t really tell you much about what it takes to get one. I don’t have a storefront and would just be doing it out of my home.

  1. I really don't know a lot about it,but I do have a friend who got one a few years back.I think he said he had to fill out some forms and wait a few months and then he had to pay a few hundred dollars. He said it wasn't hard to do,but he did say that every person he ever met in his life was bothering him to order him guns for free.He got so frustrated with this that he let it expire,he said it caused him too many head aches.

  2. Good luck. They've gotten much stricter, as they should, over the last decade or so. 'Hobby' sellers out of their houses aren't encouraged and might even be the reason you'll be turned down.

What with gun stores being broken into and robbed, I would think that ATF would look at a home's security as very 'iffy.' Being an ex-cop is the biggest thing in your favor. But think about the danger and liability your home will be in when it gets known that you sell guns. There are too many buffoons out there for most people to even consider what you're thinking of doing.

  3. Under new rules established by the Clinton regime, you generally can''t operate from your house anymore. A friend who got his license a few years ago had to show the lease for his store and a letter from the town stating that he was authorized to operate a gun business at that particular location.

  4. If you don't have a store front you are not getting an FFL, end of discussion with the ATF

Everyone say Thank You Mr Clinton
