Has anyone at school (or somewhere else) been made or forced to go without shoes? Did you feel embarrassed?

In school (especially in winter & on wet, muddy days), we had to have indoor shoes b/c we were not allowed to wear our outdoor boots/shoes in school. Otherwise, we had to go around school in our socks and be in bare feet for gym.

I remember that I was good looking, but poor, so I only had outdoor footwear to go to school with in winter days or during wet, muddy days. The principal and teachers on such days forced me to go in my socks and go barefoot in gym (I only had white socks, so I looked very nerdy - especially when they got dirty or sometimes got holes in them). I tried to reason with the school staff and fight with them over this, but it was a lost cause. I felt so left out and embarrassed b/c everybody else had popular sneakers to wear at school and here I was left shoeless! I got some stares, giggles, and I thought I heard several people laugh and make fun of me behind my back b/c a few of them pointed fingers & made fun of me to my face. Has anybody else experienced this, or something similar to this?

Actually yeah, we had to take off our shoes (if we didn't have tennis shoes) for gym but it was always fun. (Hello.. you get to slide around)  Even if you were the only kid, I always loved not having to wear shoes.

No. But that's too bad. Don't pay attention to what people say. I think your socks are pretty great. :]

I'm pretty sure that a student not wearing shoes is considered a fire hazard (unless the whole schools has carpet, which is unlikely), and therefore not allowed in public schools.

Having only gone to public schools my whole life, I've never had that problem.

no, i haven't. at my school boots aren't allowed period. we have to deal with our wet shoes. i'm sorry for you though. i don't think that doing that is legal, or stands up to health codes
