  1. Voter registration. Just register to vote, pretty soon they'll call you and will keep calling you.

  2. Yes my sister was called up and a girl from my work.

People are selected off the electoral role.

  3. no, but I wish I could be!  How do you get on?

  4. first you will receive questionnaire. You must be a citizen, not illegal alien with driver license. Then court will call you in

  5. Yes I was called 10 years ago, It was a great experience although daunting at first. You are chosen at random from the electoral register and sent your summons forms which have to declare if you are ineligible for whatever reason. After you have served your term (usually 2 weeks but longer for more complicated trials, murder, fraud etc)  you will be exempt from Jury service for 2 years.

  6. great answer babe.

  7. Luck of the draw.  I've been called up 3 times, and only had to serve once.

  8. They send you a letter. If you get the letter as i did, i really did not fancy having to do it, but when i got there i had a lot of enjoyment out of it, and i volunteered to do two more trials. Its really interesting and i would love to do it again. I just don't want to go to Aylesbury magistrates again as the benches were bleedin uncomfortable

  9. they will contact you it is completely random but they will not call you up if you have a criminal record or work for the police

i did jury service years ago and it was a very interesting experience

  10. they pick you out of the electoral roll , i served on a murder trail for 8 weeks it was great

  11. if you are over 18 you can be called up anytime if you are registered on electoral roll

  12. When you have done so you will feel quite different I assure you.

  13. they sent me a letter and made it clear that I had to respond

  14. no because i am a dangerous criminal

  15. its randomly drawn based on you state.

you need to have a state id or state drivers license, and dont worry, you will get picked at the most inconvenient time.

i had always wanted to do it, and i was notified to be there, and after 5 hours they choose me as an alternate, which means i had to go for two days and i didn't get to do anything, i had to leave the jury room when they went in to decide the verdict, i was only there in case something happened to another juror.

i lost money from work, they NEVER sent me my $15 a day or whatever it was, and i didn't get to do anything, or say anything.

only good part was the bailiffs, they were all super funny.

  16. yes last yr but couldnt do it, had to look after mentally ill mother in law. but they can call me up again anytime, they do that. they pick you out of the electrol system.

  17. In the US, it is done at the county level.  The elections commisioners pick names from the voter registration records.  So, you have to be registered to vote if you want to get picked.

I have been called.  It is real boooooring.

  18. I'm not sure but they probably go off of lists like being a registered voter. I was called to Jury duty and was selected. I didn't know this Jury was going to be 6 weeks long. Pay is crappy but I learned a lot about the court system. I think everybody should try it at least 1 time in their life. A great experience. Can you imagine being a Juror on the case of OJ Simpson?

  19. I havent been called up, but my teachers has, i guess they just pick you.

  20. They'll send you something in the mail, with a number on it.  Then you have to call a telephone number every night that week.  If your number is chosen you have jury duty.

  21. I was called up for jury duty the first time after I bought my house, had changed my address and registered to vote in my new county.  I was called up three times in a two-year period. After I got married and relocated to a new county and changed my address and voter registration, I was called up again.  I don't know if the clerk of the court uses DMV records or voting records for the jury pool, but you have to be a resident in the jurisdiction of the court to serve on jury duty.

  22. I was called up to do jury service 5 years ago.

My mum was called up twice

  23. No, but I was a member of a Court Marshal Board in the Air Force.  Just about the same thing and I was glad I did it.  Anyway here in Fl they are now using drivers licenses to contact potential Jury Members.

  24. I've been up twice, although never got on the case. Don't be so jovial about it. I know people who have been on "everyday' abuse cases and it ain't a bunch of laughs. Miss Marple it isn't,i'm sorry to say. Also, unless their is a courtroom close to you, you could be travelling for weeks, just to answer a roll call at your own expense. At the end, you claim expenses back. Employers do have to let you attend, but you can't swan off for the whole day if you have been dismissed.

  25. Yes i have and i had to go for 3 weeks, about a guy who robbed from a post office!

i had to take 3 weeks offfrom work... of course they pay for your loss of wages and any transportation fees....

but it is a very long and boaring procedure... jury have to take time out talk about the case... very boring... i had to sit there for hours on end! but all in all i can say it was rather good to see the guy go down for 6 years! well worth it just hope u get a murder case be alot more intresting!

  26. In the US you get a letter in the mail stating what dates you will be required to call in to see if your services are needed.

  27. i haven1t but i too would love to do it

    the butler did it

  28. I was contacted in the post . It was a murder case but the accused changed his plea to guilty on the first day and the jury was dismissed

  29. Pure chance. Some people are called two or three times.

  30. You are selected randomly. You may never get called. I was "randomly selected" twice in one year. I brought it to their attention asking how it is that could happen. They excused me. Haven't heard from them since.

It made me wonder about filling out the questionaire they send out. It made me wonder if I was one of the few dumb ones who filled it out & returned it.

  31. I did it when I was 21, and what a waste of time and tax payers money. I attended for the statutory 2 weeks and was only chosen for 1 case on my very last day. And being so young I felt like a fish out of water. My opinion was not once asked for during the juror's verdict meeting.

To be honest, I found it boring.
