  1. Sure. It can happen. One of the biggest questions the unemployment insurance departments have to ask is whether you left employment voluntarily or not, and whether the termination was your fault. If the facts show that you left voluntarily or it was your fault, the chances are pretty good your application will get denied. There are other requirements too. You do have a right to appeal, but I would make sure you have some good grounds to go through all the nonsense.

  2. From what I can gather it's hard to get denied...a while back my brother was fired from his State job for not showing up for a week straight and he applied for unemployment and got it! I dont condone it but it happened...I was laid off from a "dying" company some years back and I got it like lightning.  If you quit a job you dont really even have a leg to stand on so dont apply, if you get laid off it's almost a given you will get it, and apparently even if you were fired (and make up an excuse as to why) you still have a shot.  I'm pretty sure my brother made up some lie about how his fiance was in the hosptial having surgery (in reality, she did an out patient procedure and was in and out in one day).  I wouldn't lie to the unemployment agency though.  If you applied and were denied you can contact them and request a reason why. It could be that you didnt have a legit reason to apply in the first place or that you've been on unemployment too many times already
