  1. I was homeschooled untill freshman year of highschool. I knew more than most kids and was able to skip a grade. I taught myself however, because my mother was a bad teacher, and should literally be put in a mental hospital. There are still sports and debate teams for homeschoolers too.

Colleges don't look at the highschool you wen't too, but the ACT or SAT scores you received. So you must learn basically the same things as in regualar school. I studied two grades in a a year in under 4 hours a day, and at 8th grade, tested into 11th grade. So, its kinda neat if you work hard.

  2. I am from australia, so i can only answer for this country. My son studies from home using 'distance education center victoria'. they are brilliant. it is the same curriculum as state schools, and you do have to fit certain criterias, but they do take into account emotional and mental issues as well as physical. Good luck.

  3. Millions of people have been and are being homeschooled!  I was homeschooled K-12 and I wouldn't trade it for anything.  I love learning, I honestly never experienced much peer pressure (which allowed me to be me), and I always had so much more time than my public schooled friends.  I think I even had more friends than my public schooled friends because they were limited to people on their bus, in their class, and maybe the kid who shared their locker.  I had friends from dance, my job, volunteer work, orchestra, choir, church, my neighborhood, home school groups, and I always had time to spend with my friends.

You can get into any college you put your mid too!  Colleges love homeschoolers and many actively recruit homeschoolers for their hard work, higher than average GPA's, and their independent thinking/studying skills.

  4. I've been homeschooled all through highschool and I have absolutely LOVED it. It's not at all like regular school. It's actually fun if you do it right and it makes you enjoy school, WITHOUT being a nerd. I don't just sit and work out of books all day. I do lots of hands on projects, use games and manipulatives for Algebra and Geometry, video lessons and manipulatives for Pre Calculus, strategy games on the computer that require me to use the information and skills i learn in Economics, role playing games to drive home history and government concepts. I read REAL books for History, Science, and Literature. Books that go much more in deapth and are much more interesting than the text books which we use more as a guide. For literature, a real book is far better than those dumbed down short stories you read in class that are basically butchered classics. I do lots of labs and experiments for science. I even get to study things not offered in most public schools. I've studied Programming and Robotics and actually got to build and program my own robots and make them perform tasks, navigate mazes, deliver messages, and other neat things. I've studied three D animation and created some neat mini cartoons that I've actually used as projects for other subjects. I have time to be more involved in my community. I'm involved in a fencing club and I fence competitively and just for fun all the time with friends. I take unique art classes in the community like silversmithing, glass fusion, and ceramics at a community art studio. I've been involved in a drama club at a community theater, and I got to go on field trips to see plays based on books I've read at that very theater. I played soccer on a community team and then later on a homeschool team. I'm involved in our local homeschool support group <you probably have one in your area. Google it> and they have beach days, park days, movie nights, skate nights, dances, prom, field trips, science fair, field day, Not Back to School parties at theme parks, academic team, OM team, and small group classes you can take with other homeschoolers if you want to. I'm involved at the local library in their chess club and poetry club, and I attend activities with friends there all the time. I volunteer there as well as at a special equestrian camp for disabled kids and at a senior center. I've been involved in the People to People Student Ambassador program and got to travel all over to a number of different countries with them. I've been a part of Toastmasters International and got to compete in public speaking competitions. I still see my public school friends after school, meeting them for lunch durring school hours, on weekends, etc. I take music lessons and play in a small sixties rock and roll band with my boyfriend and two friends, and my boyfriend and I go horseback riding and to various conventions and events all the time.

As for college, well... I'll be graduating in December, half a year early, and I'm already duel enrolled in some college classes at a nearby college. In the spring I'll be starting full time at one of the most selective universities in my state. I don't regret homeschooling at all. Not in the slightest.

  5. Evan O'Dorney was homeschooled.  Google and watch the video.  If the reason you are considering being homeschooled is because you are hate your school, that just doesn't cut it.  But if you feel that your school can't give you the education that you are seeking, go for it.

  6. My kids were home schooled for the first part of their education. My daughter is mad at me for it. It is not an easy thing to do.

Do your parents want to teach you at home? Because they are the ones that will be taking the responsibility for you doing what needs to be done.

You might want to find a Charter school that you can go to. Or try an option that is based on your school providing the materials for you to do the work.

Homeschool is way harder than regular school.

  7. I was home schooled and I am about to start a Bsc Social Psychology.

School was making me physically ill from stress relating to bullying. I know I wouldn't be about to start university if I had stayed there.

  8. yeah you can just make sure its SAC's aproved

  9. Yes I believe someone has been home schooled.

  10. First off, don't pay any attention to "The Skeptic", he has no social life because he is too lazy to stop feeling sorry for himself and do something with his life.  You will have a better chance of getting into a good college because colleges actually look for home schooled kids.  Most of the time they do better both socially and academically.  You need to see what your parents have to say about it since they are going to be the ones who are in charge of your schooling.  It is a lot of hard work, but in the end it is worth it and if you put forth the effort you will do well.

  11. You think you would still have a social life, haha! Just wait and see!

  12. Yes, you can get into a good college.  Many homeschoolers are in Ivy league schools.  Some decide to do online college.  It will depend on your test scores (ACT/SAT) and your transcript.  Homeschool kids have good social lives also with many activities for teens in most cities, less in rural counties.
