I'm looking into going into one of these after high school.

Can you give me some information about it. Like, do they pay for your college, how do they differ from eachother other then Ameri Corps is in American and Peace Corps is in different countries. And if you would share some of your experiences. Thanks so much!! :] Happy Holidays!

  1. That's a lot of information to put into this answer box. So, go visit the websites! For the most part you need a 4 year degree. However, if you have other extensive experience, they might make an exception. I know that you get a stipend when you are finished and if you want to go to grad school, they might help pay for it, depending on the program you want. Just make sure it's what you really want because you are under a contract!

  2. I was a PCV 35 years ago. My daughter is one now. Hold high to your ambitions, but temper them with realism. Unless you've been managing a farm since you were 8 years old, the Peace Corps won't take you until you finish college. 92% of all PCV's have a college degree. The rest have 10 - 50 years of experience in something a host country asked for, usually farming.

There have been some 18 - 20 year old PCV's. They could teach outboard motor repair or were state 4-H president in high school.

has more about my experiences than would fit here.

I plan on joining after high school as well, but the thing is you must be 18 for some, but most opportunities will want a 4 year degree. Go to the frequently asked questions part of the web site. They do not pay for your college, but give you living costs for your 27 months of service, and 6 thousand dollars when you return home. Which could be applied toward your college I suppose. I'm not familiar with Ameri Corps, sorry I couldn't help much!
