Has anyone been inside an unmarked police vehicle? Does the panel look like a regular policeman's car?

I'm writing a story and I need detail about the inside of an unmarked police vehicle. Do you know if there is a police language name for the instruments on the panel that allow them to do their job? Can you describe what it looks like. Thanks so much for your time

  1. its the same model car... just unmarked.

  2. Modern cars would likely have a computer, called a MTD (Mobile Data Terminal) or PDT (Portable Data Terminal). It would be mounted in front of the middle of the dash board. It would be a laptop type of machine, ruggadized. Either looking like a small laptop with a very heavy case or a Panasonic Tough Book.

There would be some switches to turn the siren on, the actual siren switch would be the horn button. A switch to turn on the hidden strobes. There are always wires hanging out usually on the floor of the passenger seat. Where I worked there would be no radio since the officer had a portable.

In the old days a plastic panel were the radio would be with two toggle switches, One for the siren (still on the horn switch) and one to change the bright headlights into wig wags. These switches may also be mounter under the dash. There would be radio in the glove box, actually not a radio which was in the trunk but the control head to change volume and channels and a mic.

You didn't ask but the back seat cushion would be partially out and when you sat on it would slide forward. Officers take the back seat out often to search under and around it.

  3. Looks like a normal car, all there is is a police computer were the center console would be and small red and blue lights on the dash board

  4. Usually a Ford Crown Vic or Escort with nothing in it except dash lights.  And some vice(drug)units usually keep the cars they take. At least in my department it works this way.
