Has anyone been on a Disney cruise? Are they worth the money? Is it better to just go on a regular cruise?

Thinking about going on a Disney cruise, versus other cruiselines. What are the pros/cons?

  1. If you absolutely are into Disney and have the money, then it may be worth it to you.  I have not heard that Disney has ever discounted a cruise, while many of the other lines will give discounts for various reasons.  Also, Disney rarely changes its itineraries.  One summer it did a few cruises to the Mexican Riviera.  And it had some European cruises.  Otherwise, it's the Caribbean, Caribbean, Caribbean.

Personally, I would rather save the bucks and go on more cruises and to more places.  Just about every cruiseline has a kids' program with plenty of activities.  So I wouldn't even give them the advantage for that reason.

  2. You absolutely must love the mouse to go on Disney Cruise line.  If you love the mouse, this is a must do at least once in your life time.  DCL excels at its attention to detail and customer service.  The child areas and programs are of course some of the best in the industry.  The production shows each night are also some of the best.  Come on...it IS Disney.  The cabins are bigger than industry standard and most categories have a split bath with the sink outside the toilet area.  The only thing I can fault Disney on is the food.  You (and your wait team) change restaurants each night, and each restaurant has an amazing theme, but the food is somewhat boring and definitely not as good as other lines.  Also, while the trend now is to be able to get something amazing to eat at all hours on the other lines, Disney lacks in alternative food availability and choices.  The other problem is that when they do their pricing, it appears that the mouse has been smoking crack.  For instance, the new Mediterranean tours are about as expensive as if one were to book on Oceania or Crystal, yet the amenity level and food quality don't come close to that.

  3. Depending on the age, it is a awesome cruise with lots of entertainment and stars.

  4. Ooh!!!  You should go!  I saw a special on the travel channel.  everything- right down to the resteraunts- are there to entertain you.  And it's so much more than kid's stuff.

  5. I go on quite a few cruises a year and I really didn't care for the Disney Line.  I live in Florida and get enough Mickey on a daily basis.  The cruise line I felt was geared more to kids and families there is no casino on board and since I have no kids and like to gamble.....well I guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out my feelings LOL.  I love the Holland American line, the food is A+ and the staterooms are more than comfy with plenty of activities onboard.  The cost difference is also something to deal with Disney is quite a bit more than other lines, so that is something else to consider.  Most of the cruise lines do offer daily activities for kids and they can be kept busy morning to nite.  I hope this help.  Good Luck and have a great time on your cruise.  KG
