I don't know whether to plan ahead and organize my stay (about a month), or to just travel as I go.

If i plan...should i book my hotels, make train reservations ahead...and have a day by day plan for myself....?

If i travel as i please then should i just find hotels as i go, (I plan to study the places i visit to find places to stay either way), and should i just buy my train tickets as i need them??

Thoughts on Eurorail passes for unlimited travel???

  1. I find the best is to leave the schedule open but have some kind of plan.  For example, maybe you've always dreamed of seeing the Vatican, so you plan to make your way to Rome.  While you are there the Vatican is closed for 2 days, so you simply stay 2 extra days.  If you have everything pre-booked, you can't make an audible like that, without s******g up all your tickets.  This exact thing happened to me.

By the way I'd recommend seeing Paris.  I'd love to go back there again some time.

  2. I traveled throughout Europe for 3 months. We would look online at hostels and book them about a week in advance..but other than that there were no real plans. I think it's best that way..more relaxing! Also, check out Ryan Air.  We flew around a bit on this Irish airline and some of the flights were under 20 euros.  Pretty d**n cheap! If you go to Interlaken in Switzerland, the Funny Farm is a great place to stay. I can't remember the names of the other places.  Just go with the flow.  You will have a great time!
