My little girl is 10.5 months old and is walking now. I know that many people believe that 1 year old is too young to potty train but I know it's possible. For those parents that have potty trained at or about one year of age, how did you train your little one?

Please I don't want to hear that my girl is too young. I was potty trained at 1year of age.

  1. Ask your parents.

  2. you will get a lot more information on Elimination communication websites and boards. just google it or "EC" and that will give you tons of info.

the first step is always getting her used to using a potty chair or toilet..

good luck! oh and it's totally possible I was also potty trained at a year old.

  3. My pediatrition says not to try to train a child before they show interest in it.  I have 4 children, my first was 2 1/2, my second was 3, my third was 2, and my now 2 year old is almost there, he still has occasional accidents but not on a regular basis.  I also do daycare and have a 14 month old in my care that is almost trained but she got interested when my son started training.  If I had any advice it would be to put her on the potty OFTEN (like every half hour) and really praise her when she does go.  "p**p" is usually the hardest to get them to do, my son goes around the same time every day so I would put him on the potty and read him a story about that time and he would just go.  Eventually he started heading to the potty on his own with book in hand - lol.  Good luck!!

  4. My oldest son was potty trained by 13 months and my younger son by about 18 months. I do not think that 1 is too young to start. We mostly started by getting a few small potties and putting them around the house. When I went to the bathroom I would put them on a potty and say things like "pee goes in the potty- do you have any pee to put in the potty?".  When it was warm outside I would keep them naked and keep a potty available.  When they had an accident I would treat it like no big deal and just say something simple like "oops p**p goes in the potty". They both trained quickly and easily. I started putting them in undies right away and they had no problems.

  5. Keep her on a schedule and be consistent, by the way - maybe you should do what your parents did with you.

  6. I see your daughter in the pic she is soo cute!! and If you have your mind set of what you don't want to hear, then why ask the question??? If you potty trained at or about one year of age, ask the person who trained you. My daughter was 2. It comes to them...if you introduce it to them then they have interests eventually, but sometimes their bladders aren't fully developed at one to be doing it...whatever you decide, don't get mad with the child if they have an accident, its not their fault.
