  1. You're right to be skeptical. A lot of those kinds of businesses rely on you meeting face to face with people, selling those products, and in reality you 're not really going to push a lot of volume, if you don't get repeat business.

The people who profit the most from it are the owners/shareholders of Mary Kay, because if they have 1000's of people like yourself, selling a little bit everyday, it all adds up for them, but for you, it's not going to make much of a big difference.

You'll most likely start off by selling to friends and family, but after a while they may not feel like buying anymore of the products and you're going to have to do a lot of face to face selling, and you may not really fancy that.

As far as a work from home business, I would say that it's probably not worth the trouble.

Another product I would put in this category is Herbal Life, and those so called health supplement products. They all rely on the same business model.

  2. Well....I have just started my business and it is already taking off like crazy!! I looked into a bunch of them before I chose Mary Kay and I was actually very skeptical when it came to Mary Kay....I could write a book on here but I actually could email you something and some other things and questions I have asked! If you are interested in hearing what I learned and get some reading material to you email me at faith72903@yahoo.com

  3. I think that the direct sales business model is a beautiful thing mlm is a way for the average person to make an above average income. It is the only business model that lets you decide how much you want to make also you get a percentage off of the other people you sponsor. that means alot of folks doing a little can grow your business big.

  4. My sister did it and was't very successful.  Part of that was her fault because she got the makeup cheap and she was supposed to sell it at the retail price, but because most of her customers were friends and family, she felt bad charging them extra so she sold it at-cost.  However, a friend did it too and she has only broken even after years of doing it with all the mailers and stuff.  You are supposed to have the makeup on-hand so there is a big up front cost.

  5. Candy, I started my MK business almost 4 years ago. It's been GREAT for me! You really do have to work your business like a business, but if you are willling to put the hours in - it really pays off.

I am more than willing to answer any questions that you may have, or help you get started (if you don't have a consultant).  :)

  6. 2 out of every 500 Mary Kay agents make any money.  The rest make nothing or lose money. /

  7. This is a common question even I asked myself fear is the issue you will hear good and bad as with any company they question is how do you feel do you love and believe in the product? Do you like people if yes to those questions then is it worth the $100 investment to give it a try and in the month of Aug the company is even offering a special where you can get that $100 back.  So ask yourself why you are considering it is it for the product discount, extra money or to replace a fulltime income then approach it like a business the other thing to consider is the person you sing under meet their director ask questions make sure you will get the support and training you need to be successful based on your goals.

I have been in Mary Kay for 4 years and I have met people on both sides a single mom who lost her home now making 11,000 average a moth a high school drop out making 9,000 average a month and so on then the other side people who felt they were stuck with product or talked into something the only catch here is you it is not get rich quick it is a well thought out well established business plan that allows you to control how much or how little you can make.  Those that have done well will support and cheer you on those that have failed will scare you into failure it is up to you where you fall.

  8. I think if it's something you do full-time, it could work.  Everyone I know has only done it part-time and not really gotten anything out of it.  Good luck though!
