  1. For me, an Alaskan cruise is more relaxing than exciting (like a Caribbean cruise). Sitting on the balcony watching a moon-lit Inside Passage drift by with your honey is very pleasant. Fir trees and totem poles don't do it for me which lets me concentrate on relaxation.

This is not true of everyone. Once during dinner a lady screamed, "A whale!" And everyone got up and ran to the window - we're lucky the boat has stabilizers or it would have listed. I suppose there are a lot of folks from Kansas who've never seen a seagull or a mountain you can't climb in a day.

  2. Alaska is amazing.  The glaciers are beautiful and something to experience during calving season.  I went in September and while most people think it is cold there, it was 80 degrees there the whole week.  Now, of course the glaciers were cold to be near, but other than that is was short weather.  The excursions are a little pricey, but well worth the expense.  Whale watching was awesome!  Also, catch a float plane and you are bound to see some bears and such.  I am 29 and I went a few years ago and my husband and I enjoyed it.  We bought so much in ports that we had to mail some stuff back and buy an extra suit case.  The inside passage is very nice and don't miss out on just walking around the little towns.  Our Alaska cruise was in my top 2 favorites.  Have a wonderful time and don't forget to enjoy the ship.  Cruises are so much fun.

  3. I cruised to Alaska on a cruise ship for 10 years and never, ever tired of it. I also cruised the Norwegian fjords, but Alaska still wins.  There is as much (or as little) to do as you want, but if you are an outdoor person, try local bike rentals.  It is cheaper than most of the cruise line's  "organized" tours, you can go at your own pace, and make stops you otherwise wouldn't have made.  I have also found Alaska's locals a wonderful source of information, and always willing to take a moment to stop and chat.

have a great time and don't forget your sunblock.  I got the worst sunburn of my life during a sunny day in Glacier bay, because I forgot that the sun is reflected off the glaciers and twice as strong.  Even in September you can get pretty burnt !

  4. I did a cruise/tour with Princess cruises a few years ago. It was by far my favorite cruise. We flew into Fairbanks , stayed overnight, then took a train to Denali. We stayed at a Princess lodge for 3 nights, then back on another train to the cruise ship. We then sailed for 7 days and 4 ports. I hope to go again to Alaska on a cruise out of San Francisco next time. Great cruise!

  5. I have taken over 20 cruises & cruisetours to Alaska. A cruisetour is the best way to really see more of the real Alaska Amazing Scenery & Wildlife. Althou there is plenty to see from the deck of the ship. The people who live, work & cruise there go out of their way to be friendly. There is plenty to do on the ship as well as the excursions at each port of call. There are several different routes to take but, most stop at the main ports of call. From the wildlife, scenery, glaciers & meeting people from all over the world is one of the reasons to go & another is especially for people who prefer calmer water Alaska is the place to go. I feel everyone should see it at least once.

I have sailed with Holland, Norwegian & Princess and never had a bad cruise. I prefer an inside cabin as I do not spend alot of time in the cabin & enjoy seeing everything I can.

    Go ENJOY.

Too Many Great Things to SEE & Do to list.

  6. I went about 13 years ago, on Royal Caribbean.  It was a blast.  I highly recommend taking the helicopter tour and landing on the glacier.  I got down on my hands and knees to drink water from the glacier, and it was a thrilling experience.  I also recommend visiting Totem Bight, the totem pole museum in Ketchikan.  ^..^

  7. I spent a month in Alaska on 2 cruises back to back. It was great.  If you want to book cruises to Alaska, we will pay you thru our coop for your efforts.  Next year is a great year to see alaska because it will be it's 50th birthday.  See www.Alaska50.com

  8. I went on an Alaskan cruise. We did the inside passage on Norwegian Cruise Lines. We went in late September, not a good month due to rain every day and couldn't get to see the glaciers due to already being icy waters. I would suggest June if you are going to go. Although it was beautiful I really prefer something tropical.

  10. I haven't, but I will go on September 13th, we depart from Vancouver we visit Ketchikan, Juneau & Victoria (Canada) and arrive back at San Francisco, I liked this one because we get to see the departure city and the arrival city, instead of a round trip...

I've been on a cruise to Cabo and another one to Acapulco & Puerto Vallarta, I'm 26 and I often hear people say that Alaska cruises are for old people, but this is far from the truth, even though the majority of people in the shio are "mature", the shore excursions offered by the cruise are meant to be for young people, kayaking, water rafting, zipline, even a 3 hour hike in a glacier! Some excursion require some kind of endurance, so you can only do this if you are young.

Once I go and experience it I can let you know how it went, but I'm extremely excited, after the cruise arrives in San Francisco we are going to Napa for a wine tasting weekend :)

  11. That is on my to do list.
