  1. I've been to Ambergris Caye twice and loved it! It is a third world country, so don't expect luxury unless you are staying at a higher end resort. Near the town of San Pedro on the Caye, the resorts are shoulder to shoulder and the waters a bit crowded. That area wasn't so pretty. I stayed at a resort called Mata Chica. It has been the best resort I've ever stayed in! It is located on the north part of the island, very secluded, thatched roof bungalows, amazing food, and offers some great excursions! I found it to be very tropical! Many people who visit the island are divers. Each time I stayed at the resort my husband and I pretty much had the place to ourselves when we stayed for the day. We did visit another island called Caye Caulker and I wasn't too impressed with it. We also visited the Mayan ruins, took a jungle excursion, and did some snorkeling with sting rays and nurse sharks. The people we so friendly! I felt very safe on the island but have heard that Belize City can be a little scary and so we only saw the airport while there. I'm more the rest and relax type so where I stayed was perfect for me. You can ask any more specific questions at fodors.com. I got some great help there before my trip! Hope this helps!

  2. This spring my family and I were in belize during a western carribean cruise. Much to my surprise, belize had more a desert feel about it than a lush and tropical one. We spent our day walking through the village and also cave tubing, which was the highlight of the experience. Although belize is a nice place, if I had to pick a vacation spot it wouldn't be my first choice. The scenery wasn't breathtaking, in fact it was somewhat ugly. One plus however, is that many of the locals speak english, so it isn't too hard to find your way around. The beaches also weren't great. If you are looking for a vactions spot I would recommend Honduras. Honduras has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, as well as great snorkeling, some nice resorts, and some beautiful rain forests to explore. If you ever make it there try the zip line tour and the iguana farms. You can actually feed 6 foot iguanas running around from your hand. Amazing stuff.

  3. Move here from the States two years ago with wife and kids.  So far it has been wonderful.  Lots to do, great people, wonderful diversity of landscape and cultures.  Also, you can get two for one on the dollar here so the cost of living is reasonable.  Definitely would recommend a visit to anyone.
