Has anyone been to Cabo san Lucas, Mexico? Is it safe to vacation there?

3 girls going, in there late 20's..I heard it would not be safe. I have heard that you should not leave your resorts. We want to explore downtown during the day and at night.

There were 12 of us who went to Cabo in January.  We stayed at the RUI, beautiful resort..but we also ventured out to the downtown area in the day and the evening...as long as you take the cabs from the resort, and take the same type of cabs back to the resort and keep to the bar area, you should be safe.  You can also hire a cab to come to pick you up at a designated time.  Just play it smart and it would be as safe as any strange city in the States or Canada...play by the rules...also, predetermine the cost of the cab before you hire it..ask around so you know the right amount to pay.

Is not less safe than some points in USA, just use common sence and you will have a great time

I have had a townhouse in Cabo San Lucas since 1995.  My family and I spend about a month a year down there.  In the 12 years we've been going down there I have never seen or heard of any really bad stuff going on.  Other then the normal purse snatching, muggings - stuff that happens in every major city in the world.

Downtown is filled with tourists at all hours of the day and night.  You will have nothing to worry about.  Remember, just like here if you let yourself get out of control, bad things can happen.

Well you should know, where ever you travel there will be danger lurking, more in tourist spots, and especially like cabo, its like a haven for college students, and thieves alike....

If you already book or reserved a room at a hotel, ask if they have safes, use them you won't regret it

Of course go downtown; explore, eat and shop at great stores along the way, If you plan smart, then you will have a great experience

Yeah it's a beautiful town, but going downtown at night is not advisable. Don't get drunk, or you'll end up in the trunk of some guy's car...

are you kidding?  Cabo is extremely safe.  I live down here and I've never felt more safe or secure.  I walk around day/night by myself and never have any issues.  

Now, if you are all getting wasted and stumbling around the streets at 3am trying to score some weed, then I would say you are going to run into some nasty guys who lurk around watching for idiots like you.

Best advice.  Stay together and don't get involved in any illegal activities.  Have a great time and for sure explore the whole of Cabo, don't just stay stuck at the resort.
