  1. Yes.  We spent about ten days in Barcelona, and got to travel around outside the city a bit.  Loved Tarragona.  My friend who joined us there was absolutely enchanted with Girona, and I'm sorry but we never got to Cadaqués, which was a grand goal of mine.  It sounds lovely.

We liked Cataluña (or Catalunya if you prefer the Catalán, personally, I'm not terribly well versed in YOUR language...only Spanish.  That's for another day)  though, truly, if one is aware of the culture, one really notices the difference in the region, coming from Andalucía.  Totally a different country!

  2. I've been to Catalunya many times, mostly to Barcelona but other places as well. Last year I spent 15 days in a campsite in the north (near Cap de Creus) I went hiking/cycling around a lot.

Barcelona is one of my favourite cities in Europe. In Cataluna I really like the food, the landscape, the weather. What I don't like is the not so positive attitude of some Catalans towards Spain. I don't speak Catalan but I can get by in Spanish. Some people were answering me back in Catalan. I find SO HARD to believe that people aged 20 to 40 years old cannot speak/understand Spanish. Is that really true?

In a place called El Port de la Selva, I saw a huge rubbish bin that had the following painted over in bold black letters: "Embaixada Espanyola". Not very charming or respectful. What do you think?

In some other place I can't remember the name, there was a notice from RENFE printed in Spanish only, someone vandalized the RENFE note with the words: "RENFE de mierda, parlamos CATALA!"

So this kind of sentiment towards Spain/Spanish gets tiring, and I'm not even from Spain or from a Spanish speaking country! After my last holiday there I thought the resentment towards Spain was a bit too much for my taste/patience and from now on I'm going to explore other places in SPAIN, a country I really love.

So I hope you don't mind my criticism. Saludos!

  3. Barcelona is great.. Tarragona is charming, Costa Brava is fun .. Girona is medieval ( which i really like) and Lleida has good skiing.. That sums it up..

    Take care...

  4. Holaaa!!! Com Va?

Em dic Salva, I live in Zaragoza but I was born in Murcia.

It's strange for me to talk to you in english!! But as you ask in english I'll answer in english and for respect to the readers hehehe.

I've been to Catalonia several times, is very closer to Zaragoza: Barcelona, Salou, la Pineda and Lerida, among others.

Catalonia is very beautiful and has a cool folklore and cuisine: the catalan (the sandwich), sardanas, rumba catalana, caganels, festivities... and the catalonian modernism is simply impressive!!!

I also like the nature, Catalonia is blessed with beautiful landscapes (beaches, valleys, mountains)

As you know, the situation between Catalonia and the rest of Spain is sometimes a little tense because of politics and the independentis feelings. I'm not going to talk about that. (that's not the moment) I just want to say that I hope it will change and we can get on better with the Catalonians and they with the rest of Spaniards. In fact, only a minority have that problem (prejudices on the other), and I'm not included in that group (In fact, I like Catalonia very much).

My experiences there have been ALWAYS  very good. And people are mostly polite and friendly in every place I visited.

We can't never deny that Catalonia is spectacular in all terms.

    Gràcies i fins una altra!!!
