Has anyone been to Cobh, Ireland?

I have been in close contact with a pen pal since 1997 and I’m financially set to finally visit her in Ireland. I don’t want to burden her with accommodations or have her show me around everywhere. I want to know where are some places a 26 y/o single Hispanic male with disposable income can go? Any pubs, restaurants or nightlife that I should be aware of? Will it be ok if I go around town on my own? Should I just go to Dublin after seeing her in Cobh?

  1. Why dont you plan just a couple of nights in Cobh.  It is a small place in the south west of Ireland and the nearest city is Cork so you could spend some time there. There are also nice places west of Cork such as Kinsale so you dont necessarily have to come to Dublin.

I would come straight out and ask her what suits after 10 years of correspondence it can't be that hard.  Check that she is happy that you stay with her.  If not you can get a hostel or bed and breakfast (b/bs quite expensive in Cobh pronounced cove by the way).

Train fares are quite expensive so if you plan to visit Dublin you need to think ahead.  Train takes about 3 hours but you can also get a bus which will be cheaper but will take longer.

    Enjoy your trip.
