Has anyone been to Costa Rica during the rainy or "green" season ? (May through Nov)?

I thought about going to tamarindo during the middle of August. It would suck if it's going to rain everyday. Is it really bad? Would it be worth the trip ???

  1. The day I got to the outskirts of San José, Costa Rica in mid-September, it rained heavily.  In fact, it rained every afternoon and I was there for a week.  But I still had a great time.  The mornings and evenings were fine, though a bit cool for me (I'm from the Caribbean).

  2. I spent a month in San Joaquin de Flores and Monteverde. (June 1st until July 2nd) and yes, if there is ONE thing you can count on EVERY DAY around the same time, its rain! Welcome to the rain forest. Normally between 1 and 2:30 it will rain, like clockwork, for anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours.

Its a wet country, and also very very hot during this time of year. To tell you the truth, I hated Costa Rica. I got E.Coli poisoning and the Roto Virus, which this nice combination caused diarreah and vomiting at the same time for 4 days straight. I couldn't even hold water down without throwing up. I lost 12 pounds in 4 days.....I will never go back.

It wasn't even that pretty to me!

If you want to take a very nice vacation, I recommend The Dominican Republic or my personal favorite, Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Its heaven on earth!

    Good luck

  3. Yea i went there and it only seemed to have a lot of rain in the forest where i rode on zip lines(it was a lot of fun). the rain is warm and somewhat pleasant.  On the beaches(during my stay at least) it was sunny.

This is only my experience it may change, i could have gotten lucky

  4. Cleck it out...it rains a little almost everyday. Find a dry spot and order a cold beer and bocas....pura vida

  5. i like the rainy season. it's not like it rains the whole day, only like an hour.

  6. During the green season in Tamarindo it will be sunny in the monrigns and then rain for a few hours in the afternoon before clearing up again.

I've been to Costa Rica twice in the green season and loved it!

  7. If your intent is to lay on the beach and tan, then skip the rainy season.

Otherwise, the rain can be a blessing in disguise.  It will cool things off, keep the dust down, give you impressive thundershowers (you've never felt the power of mother nature until you've sat through a tropical thunderstorm).

Life goes on as usual during the rain.  Try surfing in the rain for an incredible rush (although you should avoid it if there is lightning).

Most of the time, it will rain in the afternoons and evenings, so your days will usually be free and clear.

    Enjoy your trip.
