  1. Recommend it 100%

You can't really go wrong with Switzerland no matter where you go there... its an amazing country and an experience you'll never forget.

  2. I spent three days in Interlaken and it was amazing. If you are young and looking for inexpensive lodging, Balmer's Herberge is a great hostel.

They offer a lot of adventures if you are a thrill seeker. I was going to go hang gliding, but on the recommendation of other travelers I went canyoning instead. It was awesome. Sliding down waterfalls, jumping off cliffs... amazing.

It's true that Switzerland is expensive. Your best bet is to find a grocery store and live off bread and cheese for a couple days. If you want something more substantial, the hostel has food that is reasonably affordable and tasty, plus their own bar.

I highly recommend going to Interlaken.

  3. It is a lovely place and the scenery is amazing. You can travel bu train and see a lot along the way. The only problem is that is is expensive, and even having a small meal was very expensive. Ok, I know Switzerland is expensive but we found costs in Interlaken to be somewhat higher than elsewhere and it was not easy finding reasonable price accommodation. So, a very nic plce to visit but do be ware of the costs.

  4. I personally find Thun much nicer than Interlaken. It is less touristic, a bit cheaper and has a nicer old part of town.

Take one of the regular ships on the lake to go from Thun to Interlaken - this is a stunning experience!

In case you need to cut down on cost ... just buy some food at the local supermarket and have a nice picknick on the boat.

Information and timetable (in german only, sorry!)

  5. Yes I was there on a day trip from Geneva last 2003...very beautiful place with a magnificent view of the swiss alps. There's a place called Jung frau which is the the top of europe. You have to take a train to get to jung frau. Interlaken is a small town with a few hotels and nice shops for tourists.

  7. I did not think it was as nice as some other places in Switzerland.

It depends on what you are looking for.  Interlaken is a big ski destination and if that is you motivation then it is worth looking at some of the surrounding areas which you might find slighly more visually pleasing (Interlaken itself is not the prettiest of places).  Grindelwald is just outiside and is a bit nicer.

Again it depends what you are looking for.
