I was in Ireland a few years back and went to the Abbey Tavern.

There was one song in particular that was very haunting and beautiful, and I can't remember the name of It, but know if I heard it I would recognize it. Unfortunately, there are no CDs to listen to selections on Amazon.

  1. If it was a traditional session, the usual 'haunting and beautiful' folk songs played are:

    She moves through the fair

    Danny Boy

    The Cliff of Dooneen

    Ride on

The town I loved so well

    Carrickfergus

    Black is the colour

    From Clare to here

    Spancil Hill

If you have an itunes account you can listen to samples online in their store.

    Otherwise try youtube.

  2. Ya see the thing is, most people would go into the Abbey Tavern sober and come out rat-arsed so they wouldn't have a clue what was playing by the end of the night.

And if you asked them the following morning they probably wouldn't even remember how they got home not to mind the music that was playing.

    Sorry but that's the truth.......
