things should I do while I am there!? I'm so excited about my trip in August. Is the Hurricane season really bad in Jamaica in August? Also, I plan on being in Negril, but are there good night clubs and fun activities to do in the daytime? Also, what foods should I try? Help me!

  1. Any thing you want in Jamaica is available.

Do not go to lonely places. stay on the main.

Try ackee and codfish/curry goat/jerk pork-be careful of the Jamaican scotch bonnet pepper. It is real hot.

  2. Jamaica is a blast! I go there so often that i practically live there! I am going next week,if you go to Negril u should check out rick's cafe and go cliff diving if you are brave enough! I am not,or u can go horseback riding as well! August is hurricane season, but does not mean that u will encounter inclement weather!i know there are many nightclubs, but don't know which ones.Try any and every food, pepper shrimp.curried goat or chicken, pork, roast yam,and my absolute favorite irish potato! Just be safe and have fun!

  3. August is the height of the hurricane season in the Atlantic, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. A hurricane season is not necessarily "really bad." It depends on the weather at the time.

Jamaica is beautiful and the people are lovely. Keep in mind that it is a very poor nation and you will constantly have small children begging from you in the street. Best to smile and move on.

You will spend most of the days on the beach. The clubs and restaurants change rather quickly, so ask the concierge at the hotel for recommendations. You might take part is a night-time beach-luau party. Those are great fun.

During the day you can buy food from street vendors. The fresh fruit is to die for, especially the pineapple. Try the ugli fruit if it is in season. Tomato sandwiches for lunch are cheap and delicious. At night, check out the local seafood. Curry is good too. A lot of restaurants serve goat, though I didn't care for it.

Stay in the populated areas. Don't wander off the beaten path. The streets are patrolled in an effort to protect tourism. If a local offers you ganja, keep moving.

If you have the time, take a day trip to Ochos Rios. A canopy tour over the jungle is pretty spectacular, too!

Be sure to take along a few extra rolls of toilet paper in your suitcase. Take along feminine protection if you think you'll need it.  If you smoke, take a supply of your brand. A lot of basics are difficult or impossible to come by in Jamaica.

    Have fun!
