  1. book it when you get there SAS travel in cusco are really good

we went on the 3 day lares trek and it was fantastic. if you don't want to trek try and get upto the local village - aguas caliente the night before and go to mach pucchu at sunrise before it gets busy.

make sure you allow at least 72hrs before considering going on a trek to acclimatise to the atlitude

  2. First of all, Jan/Feb is the RAINY season in the region, so you will get a lot of rain if you go on those dates.

You do need to book the trek, as the inca Trail is now heavily regulated.

The best operators I've found are:

Aventours, Explorandes and, strangely enough, Amazonas Explorer. I'm enclosing their web pages.

Nowadays all Inca Trail treks have to be done with a registered guide and all trekkers (guide included) have to purchsase a ticket for every day they'll be on the trail, so you'll always be included in a group.

  3. I have been there only 150 times aproximately doing tours to machupicchu for i have my travel company. For the trail to machupicchu is better to book it in advance so for further information you can read my free newsletters and faqs at http://www.southamericamyjourney.com .
