Has anyone been to Metz, Nancy, or Verdun? Very historical!?

  2. All three.  Apart from being old places -

    Not a lot in Metz.

    In Verdun you have L'Osserie - part of the battlefield museum.  An immense building housing the bones of unidentified WWI casualties.  Nothing but the bones, and in crates.  Immense.  You'll be in tears.

    Nancy - the inspirational centre of the art nouveau movement.  Gallé and around twenty others.  Several good antiques shops specialise.  Read the price tickets and, again, yoou'll be in tears.

    There are still buildings dating back to the Middle Age about everywhere. Lorraine was an independent Duchy until 1766, when it became part of France.

    If you wander into the old town in Nancy for instance (I am born there), you will still see streets with the gutter in the MIDDLE of the street.

    Metz and Verdun are about as old, probably even older, and so is Toul.
