What advice would you give me? How do the tents work. Do you have to have reservations ahead of time? and if so, what do you recommend about making the reservations. Is going for three to four days too long?

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. This part of my trip I feel lost and do not know anything about it except that I know it will be fun. Thank you!!

  1. I love the Oktoberfest and go there every year.

Having a reservation off course is a good thing, especially on weekends. But you can also go without a reservation, then you need to go early and preferably on a weekday.

3 or 4 days only Oktoberfest is not too long, but it might bring you to the borders of your resistance..... we usually go only every second day or so, otherwise it is really exhausting.

Anyways, you will have soooo much fun there.

  2. Well, I live in Munich and go to Octoberfest every year. So far we had to go to the tents fairly early to get in. If you tried to go in the afternoon the tents would be so packed that they closed the doors and wouldn't open them until much later.

But now, the state has enforced a smoking ban. So no one is sure what Octoberfest will be like this year. To a lot of people beer and smoking go hand in hand and one does not taste good without the other. So right now there is a lot of speculation about what will go down this year. Some say, that the tents will be empty....others say, the tents will be turned into clubs with bouncers and all, that would allow the people to smoke. And other say the tents will be built differently, only with a roof, but no walls, so it could be considered "open air".....

So to be honest, giving you advice about this year Octoberfest is kind of hard.

I don't think 3 or 4 days is too long. Depends how much you are used to partying. You might need a day to recuperate and go back out there on the 3rd day. There are plenty of people who are here the entire 2 weeks and go every day.

Only thing I can tell you is, don't bring a lot of stuff with you. No backpacks or bags, or they will be stolen. There is a ridiculous amount of people there and theft happens pretty quickly.

Oh, and bring a lot of money because everything is ridiculously expensive

    Hope that helps a little

By the way, Octoberfest lasts for 16 days, not 4 like the person before me said. Sometimes 18 days if the German Union Day (October 3rd) falls on a Tuesday.

There is an easy way to find out when Octoberfest starts....take the first Sunday in October and count back 2 weeks and one day. That Saturday is when Octoberfest will start.

  3. The Octoberfest is one of the worlds biggest fancy fare and the biggest beerfestival in the world with a lot of attractions lasting 4 days, there is no reservation possible just get to the 'Festwiese' throw yourself into the crowd and enjoy yourself, you'll have fun strolling around all the tents and open air activities.

    have fun checking at:

  4. Reservations are hard to get you need to look now. I might suggest staying outside of Munich an dtaking the train in and out everytime. did this once one year and it worked out pretty well. Expensive, and crowded, but it is one great party, a denfinte thing to do once in your life. Tenting, don't know about that, sometimes the weather is good other times cold and miserable, I would look hard for a Guesthouse or hotel.

    Best of luck
