Thinking of going there this weekend with my mum - is it worth the 2 hour journey or not? Also, how much time should I expect to spend there? I'd value honest opinions please.

  1. yeah iv been there and i thought it was brilliant the tour takes the whole day because you go off out to knowth and dowth as well which are also really good!!

  2. Not really, no. It's just a big hump of rock.

  3. I was there about 12 years ago and found it a fascinating place.

It might appeal if you're interested in spiritual things, history etc.

They actually don't know a heck of a lot about what Newgrange was really for.

How long to spend?  Probably an hour will do.

So, sure, why not go?  Should be two hours well invested!

  4. You should definitely go, It is fascinating-to think it is older than the pry amids!! And for sure do the solstice simulation-that's cool!( even seeing the 200 year old graffiti is kind of cool)

There is a lot to see around the Boyne valley, spend the day sight seeing!!

  5. The place has changed in the last few years.

You could spend a day there.

There is a museum / interpretive centre

You can find out all about the site here.

I went when I was in primary school  (on a  C.I.E. school tour)  and remember a field and people with wellington boots.

    It is much better now.

    Enjoy your visit !

  6. I would definitely go there, I have been there twice and have recommended it highly to family members on their trips. Think about packing lunch and spending the day.  Tara/Slane is about 20 minutes away (great place for a picnic) and Melifont Abby and site of  the Boyne another 5 minutes away from the Abby.

If you are a photog bring your camera, the Abby is an amazing place to shoot.  The textures in the stone are beyond belief in the morning light!

  7. I went last year and spent most of the day and enjoyed it.  There are a few different tours to take of the grounds and a good information center.  The tours are timed and kept to a schedule so the number of people at the site are low, which was a pleasant surprise.  Its well worth the time to better understand the significance of ancient Ireland.  Go for it.  They have done a nice job to make the visit a good experience.

Also, not far from there is the Hill of Slane.  While waiting for our Newgrange tour, we took the short drive over to visit the monastic site that was supposedly occupied by Patrick in the 5th century.  There was no one around...a very neat experience.

  8. Absolutely loved it!!!  My mom and I went there last April and it was fascinating.  My mom and I are both into spirituality and history so it was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland.  We both were overcome with a sense of peace while we were inside.  I wish we had allowed ourselves more time there.

  9. yes
