Has anyone been to Parma Italy?

I hear it has marvelous food, wines, music [Verdi] history etc.

yes and you can buy parma ham by the shank...but they just call it ham.

also, for some reason when i went 3years ago there were an awful lot of stray cat about...rather unsettling.

I live about an hour from Parma by car. It's a very nice place to visit and does have excellent food. We go there for lunch sometimes when I have visitors from out of town. there are a number of places close to Parma where there are interesting castles too. The old theater which is being restored is very interesting. If you go, visit the inside of the baptistry too. Parma is one of the few places in Italy where you could go to a baseball game if you wanted.

I live near Parma but i don't think ti's a great city... there are many others more interesting. Food and nice history are generic features of all Italy

Yes I live there  - It is wonderful city - one of the richest in Italy and rather s****. but a lovely relaxing place with great restaurants and nice people - really nice  (No not me - I am not Italian)

There are wonderful shops and out of town some shopping malls - Liberia Mondadori being my favourite.

Outside the city there are some wonderful places to visit in the hills and scenery which will make your heart sing with joy. Even the lowland area North of the city has a beauty which is special.  It is also very close to other great cities/towns.  45 mis Modena - 50 Mins Bardi - 60 mins Bologna. 1.45 Milan - 2 hrs Pisa. 1.20 Cinque Terre. Good rail connections also The airport is a pain in the butt but you cannot have everything

Go - it is great and it is cheap to get to via London if you use Ryanair. And you can do all your sightseeing on foot.  Some of the surrounding towns have great castles too.  Go - i love the place and its people......
