  1. In fact I am Costarrican... Hehe!

U must go to Arenal Volcano, it is in action every single day, is not dangerous it has been like this way from years ago...

U must visit Guanacaste beaches, Manuel Antonio Beach, Dominical Beach, and Monteverde that is a beautiful mountain,

U can ask any travel agency to tell U abaut the beaches with black and white sand... etc

  2. I'm costarrican....lol

San Jose isn't the best place to be,although downtown San Jose isn't that bad. Just don't go out after 7.The best place to be for me is Guanacaste although it's verrryyy hot. It has the most beautiful beaches and the most peaceful atmosphere. I do recommend staying in a hotel with a/c if you're not used to hot climate. Puntarenas is also a great place, but some beaches are just for prostitutes and such people. Limon is great but verrryyy hot and not the safest place. It has some very awesome parks like Tortuguero. I suggest you to go to Manuel Antonio. It's really a great place.

  3. night life... day light... surroundings... that's depends what you are hoping to see. in san jose downtown we have the gold museums and others, strip clubs as D'pelufos or tango india or nature as rivers, volcanoes, rain forest

  4. San Jose is OK,there are some nice areas like Sabana or San Pedro and Escazu. Downtown is pretty S****y but not more dangerous than any other big city in Latin America.

Alajuela is smaller and safer, plus closer to the airport.

Check out this new hostel there

  5. Have to agree with previous "answerer", San Jose is a big city with museums, parks, restaurants, etc. but a little dangerous at nite.  For some local color tho, try to get to the Central Market, right int the middle of the city...........has everything including souveneirs at very good prices.

But, just like the probably every other country , the suburbs are beautiful too.

I live 15minutes outa San Jose and it is very nice , many things to do, great restaurants, and many "gringo" bars, if you are interested.

I would suggest looking outside of the city, try Escazu, Santa Ana, etc.

you can contact me and i can give more info/directions.

  6. Read about my trip to San Jose here http://blogs.bootsnall.com/sean94110/wp-...

  7. I flew in to the airport, stayed overnight at the Best Western because it was very late, and the next day I drove the heck out of there... well, I got lost for 2 hours so I got to see more then I wanted to see.... but still :)

I only returned to fly back home.

San Jose is not a tourist city, and it is not particularly a safe place to be... Costa Rica is a beautiful country... but San Jose is a **** hole. Dont go to Costa Rica to go to San Jose.

  8. I agree. Costa Rica has sooo much to offer, this is a natural and ecological destination, not a cultural. If you have a 2 week stay a day in San Jose would be ok to visit museums, etc. San Jose ist only the capital of the country and you should not go to Costa Rica only to visit the city, unless you have a business trip or something like this. Costa Rica offers: volcanoes, beaches, rainforest and much more.

  9. Yes I've been there. I spent 2 days in San Jose (I liked it very much) and then went straight to Playa Tambor. Costa Rica has beautiful beaches, as well as an amazing jungle. Try and go to the jungle too, wonderful experience.

  10. B4r you go to any foreign city on vacation it is always a good thing to ask around. Go online and look up that particular city and I mean that even for cities in the USA.

Example, there are many cities here in California that have plenty of plam trees but, you would not want to be caught dead near them. Let alone in them.

  11. San Jose is so much safer than most people think, two years ago was very unpleasant and unsafe, but the actual government changed that. In San Jose, well, everything depends on your interest, first you should stay in Escazu, the town which Americans call the new California, full of restaurants, bars, pubs, and very close to San Jose downtown, in which you can go to the Contemporary art museum, Teor/Etica the best gallery in central America, Morazan Park, Plaza de la cultura with the gold museum underneath and currently having an art show with Picasso, Dali and Gaudi paintings. Or you can use San Jose as a place to sleep and meanwhile do 1 day tours, to coffee plantations, rain forest, aerial tram, or just get in the bus, and in 2 hours and a half enjoy the central Pacific (Jaco). Everything depends on what do you like, and I disagree with the people that says there is no cultural things to do round there.
