Has anyone been to The Boathouse Restaurant in Central Park?

I want to take my BF for his birthday and would like to know if you have to be dressed up or is casual wear ok? Also, would like to know if I have to reserve a gondola ride there or do I call to make reservations for that?

For his birthday, definitely dress up - the boathouse is very very nice - though nowadays you can "dress down" somewhat.  why not celebrate the occasion to its fullest and look great doing it!!  You can wear dress pants - if dresses aren't your thing. ;)
