During our cruise we are planning on doing the Xcaret excursion.. WE have researched it online.. but i would like to get the opinion of the park by someone who has been there..

How much? Do you really swim with different sea life. Anything you can tell me about it will be appreciated. thanks

  1. We have actually been to both places mentioned (Xcaret - twice, and Chankkanab once).. and I liked Xcaret better because it was less salty for snorkeling.. The fresh water stream that runs out to the ocean seemed to push the salt water out a bit.. and it didn't taste so bad.

We snorkeled at each.. and saw similar small fish.. nothing amazing, like sharks or anything..

It was a nice excursion. I don't think you'd be disappointed..

Our excursion was coupled with Tulum, which we loved. (both times)..

  2. I went to Xcaret and would only give it an "okay" rating.  The swimming with the dolphins costs a lot extra and is a very short time.  Swimming in the underground river amounted to floating in a life jacket in semidarkness in pretty chilly water.  Nothing to really see while do it.

I would not call it an ecological park.  It is an attempt to get tourists to spend a lot of money for a day that would be better spent elsewhere.

Instead of Xcaret, I would recommend spending the day at Chakkanaab Park in Cozumel.  It is a state park that has wonderful snorkeling on a close-in reef with a lot of fish of different kind.  On shore, it is a tropical garden with lots of huge iguanas all over the place.  It is a lot better and less expensive than Xcaret.

  3. you swim in an underground stream/river, maybe 50 to 75 yards long.  Water tempurature will make it fun or horrible.  The evening Mayan show and musical is worth the entry fee by itself, don't miss it.  Being that you are on a cruise, you may be time limited......   I spent the afternoon into the evening there and would go back again.   Have fun.
