  1. Yep I've been there and it's awesome. My favourite things to do were the theme parks. There are four of them and they are called Dream World, Wet 'n' Wild, Movie World and Sea World. (All in order of preference for me) They have awesome rides at all of them.

    Check out this website: http://myfun.com.au

It has info on most of the theme parks in the gold coast (except for Dream world which you can check out at http://www.dreamworld.com.au .All four of these theme parks are located pretty close together and you would be able to either hire a car or take a bus to get there. There's many options!

The beaches in Queensland are beautiful. This website has all the info on  beaches located along the gold coast:

    http://www.gold-coast.net/goldcoast/beac...

There are some big shopping facilities as well. I've been to many mall like ones. There's a couple of websites that can also help you: http://www.gold-coast.net/shopping/index... AND http://www.hellogoldcoast.com.au/shoppin...

If you want more info on the Gold coast as a whole, just go to: http://www.australia-goldcoast.com.au/

Hope this helped and have a good time there if you go! It really is gorgeous and I can promise you that you'll love it. =]

  2. Yes I live here and love it. We have a 40 kilometre stretch of wonderful beaches . Surfing alll year round and life guaards on duty. Our beaches are netted but people can get caught in dangerous rips. So always swim between the flags. Our shopping centres are numerous and all easy accesible by bus . Harbour Town is great many designer labels at a fraction of the Cost. Our biggest shopping centre would be Pacific Fair which is at Broadbeach near the Casino and Convention centre. Across the road from the Casino you can use the mono rail and here you will find Kurrawa Beach The oasis shopping center and Neicon Plaza. Inside Neicon Plaza there is a large bronze statue of The man from Snowy river surounded by tons of opal in a water setting. You can eat at the Kurrawa surf club which serves a good meal. All the Theme Parks have access by bus . If you go to Sea World just along the road is Marina Mirage a trendy up market shopping precinct . It's lovely there and you can eat at many  restaraunts along the water front where the boat marina is. next door is the 5 star Hotel versace. Along the water front on Marine Parade The Broad water  Labrador is beautiful . a super stroll and lovely restaraunts. very  competitive. At Charis fish and chip shop they feed the pelicans on the water. Then we have the hinterland where the National parks have some great walks water falls etc. Also we have The Currumbin bird sanctuary wild life park . When you get here your hotel will be able to supply you with many leaflets and ideas. You'll love it . have a great holiday.

  3. Ditto on what's been said before.  The theme parks are awesome (Dreamworld is easily the best; and Sea World is easily the worst for rides, but is a nice - if you like oversized aquariums).

Eating-wise, the surf lifesaving clubs generally have great food at cheap prices.  Try any of them, but I can certainly recommend the Coolangatta SLSC (not to be confused with the Tweed-Coolangatta SLSC), North Burleigh SLSC, Kurrawa SLSC, and Tallebudgera SLSC; which all have really good meals, and not overpriced.

Skipping over the border into New South Wales, Tweed Heads (which "blends" into Coolangatta) has a great shopping area; and the bowls club has great food also.

If you have wheels, Harbour Town (in Labrador) has a great range of DFO-style shops.

And for something slightly "off the wall"... there's the Duck Tour that operates out of Surfers Paradise.  It's great fun driving down the main street, then heading straight into the canals that surround Surfers.  It's a great way to see how the locals live.

Pacific Fair is by far my favourite shopping centre on the whole Gold Coast; but Australia Fair is also quite good.  Neicon Plaza really doesn't appeal to me, but the Oasis (on the opposite side of the mall) is fabulous.   And the monorail runs from Oasis over to Jupiter's Casino (on the other side of the highway -- opposite Pacific Fair).

If you're looking for a slightly different adventure, you can "charter" a Harley.  Get a group of friends together and head off to the Hinterland on a Hog.  It's a great way of seeing another part of the Gold Coast; and there's always the option of lunch in Mount Tambourine or visiting one of the local wineries.

Personally, just sitting in the spa or sunning myself on the beach is what sends this "Mexican" north for a couple of weeks every winter.

One word of warning though -- if your a "southener" (like me), don't head to Queensland from late-December through February.  The humidity is just plain nasty, and the Stingers ensure a trip to the beach is out of the question.

    Have a wonderful time.
