  1. I've been to Seville, Spain and honestly it wasn't that friendly.  Everyone seemed to keep to themselves and the guys on motorcycles seem to have a death wish.  There are a few tourist attractions like the Seville Cathedral.  It's the world's largest gothic cathedral and the 4th largest largest Christian church in the world.  The food was okay.  Go to a restaurant that has picture menus b/c if you order shrimp, you will get one large shrimp with the head, legs, etc still attached.  The city comes alive at night if you know where to go.  Hope this helped.

  2. I've been to the first three. Some of the most incredible places I've visited. Stayed at the Hostal Maestre in Corboda for next to nothing and it had a gorgeous Spanish courtyard. http://www.hotelmaestre.com/principaling... and ate at a fantastic organic restaurant in the old city that I can't think of at the moment. It's a little smaller than Granada and Sevilla, but worth stopping along the way. Spend your extra nights there to save cash since it's cheaper than the other two places.

You have to see Sevilla (the Alcazar, Cathedral, the tapas, the flamenco, the art museum has a good Spanish Baroque collection) and Granada (the Alhambra, tapas), as well.

My favorite guide is the Rough Guide to Andalucia. It has more than you'll possibly be able to do. But drop me a line if you have specific questions.

  3. it depends how old you area and what you're looking for. i don't know any big cities that are friendly, anywhere!

seville and granada are not unfriendly places, but if you go to the really touristy bits those are the worst in my opinion. i disagree with KC above, menus with pictures are aimed at tourists. swot up on your spanish, even if you only learn about the menus, before you go and very often the waiters and waitresses will love you for trying!

we've bought a house half way between malaga and cordoba, granada and seville, and we love it there. in the small villages the people are so friendly it's unbelievable!

the further you are from the coast, and from city centres, the better.

    try this

  4. I live within easy driving distance from those places. Andalucia is a fantastic place to visit. I've never been to Albacete but I have friends who have. They tell me to give it a miss, but who knows.

Almost all of the towns and villages away from the coast are friendly. I know a small place way out in the hills. It is a great hiking area. The village is called Benaojon. It is in the Grazelema National Park north of Ronda. There is a super hotel there called "Molino del Santo". I had the best sangria ever at that hotel. It looks a super place to stay. Check out the link.

  5. Okay, you're talking about Andalucía.  So, yeah.  Friendly.  VERY.  Warm and wonderful people!

I lived in Sevilla, and have been in Córdoba (recently) and Granada (a few times).  All wonderful places for friendly people.  (never been to albacete, but I would expect the same.  I think it's really smaller than the others.)

I mean, people will bend over backwards to help you out if you try just a tiny bit to be friendly to them.

And I agree with Paul on the restaurants...Just get used to the shrimp with the heads and tails, if you like seafood.  Too bad.  Close your eyes.  They taste just as good!  Learn a few words, and you will be fine.  Or just don't order the shrimp :(  The restaurants in Sevilla are INCREDIBLE!

Check out, if you have the time, La Campana for sweets.  Best in the world!  Have a cup of coffee for me (coffee!  I miss the café con leche!  Lattés are okay, but they still don't quite touch torrefacto!).  There's this really cool place right across from the cathedral. Exit by the Giralda, and cross the plazuela, and there's this little bodega with bull's heads all over the walls.   Tapas were, like a euro or two.  good stuff!   Actually, pretty much any place on that side of town would be good.  Go into the Barrio Santa Cruz and get yourself lost.  Take in the sights and sounds and smells, and find any little place to eat (and shop, too).

Another nice place you HAVEN'T mentioned is Ronda.  One of my favorite little hill towns.  The new bridge (Puente Nuevo) is spectacular!  And, well, everything there is really nice.  You'll like that, too.

Granada is one of my favorite places in the world.  Bar none, but Sevilla.  Córdoba, well, I can't help you too much.  We went, saw, conquered.  The Mezquita was incredible!  But other than that, it was much like most Andaluz towns.  So, you'll find that same, wonderful atmosphere, but it wasn't home for me.
