Has anyone been to la louvre?

I'm doing a report on it, is there anything you found really interesting there?

When I went to the louvre. It was sooo Coool! Everything there was awesome. I loved looking at Napoleans apartments.

First of all it is le Louvre, not la Louvre.  The other poster who said that they take away your camera if you take photographs of the paintings is incorrect.  I have the photos to prove it!  

Here are some bullet points.  

     Venus de Milo, Winged Victory, Mona Lisa, and many other wonderful works of art reside at le Louvre.  

     There are beautiful glass pyramids outside the musuem that were designed by I.M. Pei.  

     The Mona Lisa is called La Gioconde in French and is surprisingly small for such a famous work of art.  

     The musuem has three wings, of which the Denon wing is the most famous.  

     Winged Victory stands at the top of a grand staircase.  

     There are frescoes on the ceilings that are incredibly beautiful.

     Some of the mosaics look like tapestries until you get very close to them.

If you need further information, Barnes and Noble has a large book on the museum for about $15.

Louvre is a suburb of Paris, not a museum.  Louvre des Antiquaires is probably the best antiques centre in the world.  The local museum isn't bad.

The things I found most interesting is how much is there, and how its just displayed...I'm used to the Smithsonian, which while impressive, is no Louvre.....here, important objects almost get their own rooms....in the Louvre, the Winged Victory is on a staircase, the Venus is in the middle of a hallway, and the Mona Lisa is just on a wall

Le Louvre,

was the castle of the king of France _le Palais Royal_, built in the 12th by Philippe Auguste, until 17th when the King Louis XIV moved to Versailles. When he was a child, there was a rebellion of the french nobless, so he wanted to avoid Paris.

you can see in the Museum the ruins of the Castle from Philippe Auguste, which is under the place.

Moreover, Napoleon the III rd established him in the re-built Louvre, you can also visit its location.

Until the 1980s, the French Ministry if Economy was established in a part of the Louvre.



You can enter Le Musée du Louvre for free each first Sunday of the month, I'm not sure.

It s an amazing place. It s an historic location, several times. And there is so many many many things to see.

The louvre would take weeks to go through if you spent just a minute looking at each masterpiece.  What I found the most interesting, was that the Mona Lisa was really quite small, though people seem to make a huge deal over it. There was a huge crowd around the wall it was on, when I saw it.  There was also thick glass surrounding it.  

The ceilings have paintings in them.  

No cameras are allowed, but everyone seems to take pictures anyway.

Winged Victory and Venus de Milo are also there.

The inverted pyramid has like, over 600 glass panes in it.

yup.  it's a cool place to go.

Yes I was there a few years back. Like the person before me said, the Mona Lisa is quite small compared to the big deal it is supposed to be!

But the Louvre itself is a very gorgeous place.

i've been to the louvre and it is amazing!

There is a picture of the last supper that is HUGE!  it's bigger than anything i've ever seen.  the artist even painted his brother (i think) into the picture.

this painting is unbelievably huge and brilliant.

The sheer vastness of the collection. What is on display is only a fraction of what is present on the premises. The original castle remains deep in the basement is fascinating as well. No Better collection for size and appeal in the world as long as you don't seek post 1900 work.

Le Louvre is the greatest museum in the world, so...... you can imagine there is sthg interesting there.

you like egypt ? greece ? rome ? mesopotamia ? middle ages ? Renaissance ? classism ? romantism ? and..............

Ok.  You do know that the Louvre is the most important and prestigeous art museum in the WORLD, right?  That the Mona Lisa is there, (it's smaller than you probably think) and the Venus Di Milo, and Winged Nike, and some of the world's best art.

Apart from the obvious, which you can find by searching the museum, I found a large room with eight (I think it was) paintings by Raphael, of the life of Queen Maria Cristina most interesting.
